not able to eat lunch with co-workers

Recommended Posts

Not everyone knows that i had surgery, but if I am in a group someone always makes a statement about the small quantity of food that I eat. i find this uncomfortable. How do over people handle this?

I've eaten around a lit of people and nobody has noticed. But you could say you're watching what you eat...not a lie

Get a salad with grilled meat. Eat the meat, push the salad around.

Along your co-workers are jerks what kind of people make comments like that in a business environment?

I eat around people and no one notices. They know I am trying to lose.

@@Stevehud why over share in the work place? Her eating habits and personal life are none of their business. Unless her job involves competitive eating.

Because it's none of their business? Just like hemorrhoids, periods, spousal disputes, salary, family drama, bouts of diarrhea ...

I dont know why i will explain myself to you. BUT what I meant was, is there a reason, such as personnel reasons, or perhaps they took time off under a different guise, and dont want thier boss to know. perhaps these people are not trustworthy or constantly gossip?

am not inferring that people have a RIGHT to know. But if something bothers you , and you do nothing to stop that, you become as much at fault as those who bother you.

See im honest about you bothering me. I dont hide it.

"I've been having stomach issues lately. I'd really rather not talk about it, thank you for understanding."

Not a lie.

@@bevewhite - turn the tables on them - and ask how can they eat ALL of the food they have on their plate - there are starving children that Sally Struthers is still trying to feed or is it Scarlett Johansen...

Is their a cafeteria monitor at your school, uh...job? You may ask them that as well - if they are the cafeteria monitor.... When I was a kid they use to check to see if you were eating all of your food. I am old enough to remember the 'clean your plate' rule from school.

My folks liked us to at least try some of the not so favorite stuff that was on the table but we were not hounded to clean the plate thank God!

"Bless their hearts"

sorry....rant over....

I find it amazing how much our conversations focused around food. My friends know that I've lost weight and know that I don't want to talk about food anymore. Fortunately you're early in the process of might be hard to have a conversation. Here's what I do at lunch we don't talk about food we talk about life and when someone brings the food I say can we not talk about food please. And that usually stops the conversation. Keep in mind none of my friends know about the surgery they all just know that I'm watching what i eat.

Good luck.

You don't have to explain it to me any more than they have to explain their dietary choices to anyone. Clearly if someone chooses not to explain, it's for personal reasons and no more information is needed -- even all those listed.

When I still had my band I was at a professional meeting and some woman sitting next to me that I did not know said "why aren't you eating more?" Mind you I was not SMO anymore but still MO! I normally don't go out to eat because with band I never knew what would make me vomit. I'm hoping sleeve will be better for me.

OP. Any response is acceptable even a "non response" response would be ok. Keep doing what you are doing - taking care of yourself.

I proudly tell people why I don't each much or don't eat certain things ... They have been very supportive and even offer other suggestions of things to try or other places to go that will be more accommodating to my restrictions ...

I find it comforting that people know ....

Don't get me wrong ... there are the "chosen few" that have their opinions and their reasons for them ...

But as Momma always said ... "Opinions are like a$$holes ... everyone's got one!"

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
