Surgeons Goal vs Personal Goal

Recommended Posts

I just realized in the before photo I was 246. I'm still trying to find a full body before. I obviously never took them. @@Zoes.Realm I woke up today at 225. I can't wait to get to onederland! I would love to stay in touch with you since we had the same surgery date!

When asked my goal at my first appointment with my surgeon, I said "somewhere in the 150's". That would be the upper end of a normal BMI for my 5'7" frame.

My surgeon disagreed and said she would be more comfortable with me in the 170's. Apparently when you have a very muscular body type the BMI charts don't apply to you.

Either way, I don't really care. I just want to be able to be active and healthy and look half decent in a pair of jeans. I'm not overly committed to any particular number, other than knowing I want to be in onederland. I'll stop losing when I stop losing.

I agree with you @ I'm trying not to stress over the numbers. My personal goal for now is to be under the 200lb mark by my next appt in June.

I have not been under 200lb since I was 24. So to me that will be a huge milestone!

That's about the age I was last under 200 as well. I was hoping to be there by the time I have to fly in the first week of June, but at the rate I'm going I don't think I'll quite get there. Not that it matters...as long as I don't need a seatbelt extender again (and I already won't) I'll be quite content!

@@"FayBee" and @@"CHMD" I see my surgeon again on Monday, I week after being weighed at 222lbs. I would love to be 215 lbs at that visit. And by my 3 month I want to be well under 200 lbs

Sent from my SM-G925P using the BariatricPal App

I feel like my weight loss has already slowed down. So even losing 25 lbs in the next 2 months seems like it going to be hard. My doctor said I need to be doing at least 4-5 days of cardio!

The BMI chart is very outdated, was created with bad science by insurance companies, who are trying to predict mortality in order to profit from the losses of others. It never ceases to amaze me how antiquated Western medicine remains, and how much Unquestioning faith most people have in it. When your body is comfortable with its weight, it will stop shedding it. Bodies are not uniformly manufactured products. Every single one is unique and individual. The right weight for you is the weight at which you feel healthy and strong. BMI charts are not the end all, be all, of weight loss. Personally, I think they are ridiculous.

I do feel like BMI charts are outdated. I still feel like my ideal weight would be between 140-150.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
