Stepping on the scale.....

Recommended Posts

How often do you weigh yourself?

Last I was weighed was at my post op on the 29th (was down 23 pounds-11 pre op 12 post op). I'm exactly two weeks and one day out (surgery was the 24th). I did not buy a scale because I did not want to become obsessed with weighing myself. What has been your scale logic? Do you find it better to weigh yourself constantly or not?

I weigh myself constantly! but after week 2 it doesn't bother me, I am just curious to see the effects of the choices I am making. I only log the weight on Monday so the rest of the times it is just information that comes and goes. If it starts to become a problem then I will have my husband take the scale away from me.

When I was in weight loss mode, I weighed infrequently -- every couple of weeks or a month. In maintenance mode -- weigh constantly (every day) in order to be vigilant about pounds not sneaking back on and honest about my eating habits.

I have scale and now decide not to weigh myself anymore, because it discourages me at times.

I weigh myself every morning when I first get up. The doc told me a while back to put the scale away and just weigh once a month. I did that and gained ten pounds in one month on the first try. So, I got my scale out and use it. That way, if my weight goes up, one day's gain can be corrected the next day.

I weigh everyday and I am 9 months post op. I didn't lose weight in December and January. But I also stopped logging my food and only weighed in sporadically. As of February 1st, I made rhetoric decision to use my tool how should be used and also weigh in daily. The scale helps me be accountable for my food choices.

everyday... sometimes I wish I did not- but it helps me stay accountable to myself. When I allowed my weight to get out of control, I just refused to weigh myself. It was like sticking my head in the sand.. Not going to do that again.

once a week. dont see reason to stress myself every day. your weight depends from amount of Water or salt u had day before or fact that u didnt poop or pee yet. has nothing to do with your actual losing weight process. you will see that is pound more than yesterday and will start to starve yourself. and the real reason can be that u had too much salt yesterday and your body holded more water.

9 1/2 months post op. I get up, pee (hey, Water is heavy!), and weigh myself. It is a number, only a number. It is the same as tracking Protein or Fluid, it's a tool. The best gauge is how you FEEL. If you don't have a healthy relationship with your scale, ask yourself why that is, and then see if you can do something about that. This ENTIRE process is not just about losing excess weight!

Every day for me. Before I had my sleeve if I knew I was putting on weight I just would not weigh at all. Now as other posters have said by weighing daily it keeps ME accountable. Even though I am away from home I have scales here in the villa in Cyprus and I am using them.

Right now I weight myself once a week, but once I go into maintenance I will probably do it every other day to hold myself accountable. Years and years ago I would weigh myself pretty consistently and it helped me stay in a certain weight range. But when I started gaining a few pounds (the freshman 15 lol) I stopped weighing myself all together and 1 year later at my physical I had gained almost 60 pounds! I think I was in denial of gaining weight and not knowing my actual weight fed into that denial.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
