I am just wondering what everyone who was/is on birth control pills did. The first dr i went to said i had to stop taking them 4 wks prior up until 2 wks after surgery. I have since changed drs and they said i don't have to stop taking them at all before surgery. Now, i know there aren't any general guide lines so i am just wondering what everyone else was told.

I am on an IUD so I can't speak to Birth Control pills specifically but I can tell you that my doctor said I will need to use 2 forms of birth control from when I started my journey and that was prior to surgery up to 2 years after surgery. The reason for this was that weight loss makes you very fertile and you don't want to get pregnant right away after surgery.

Right now I have the IUD and we use condoms however I have convinced the hubby to get a vasectomy so that should cover the 2 forms for life :)

I wasnt told i need to stop but im guessing that doc one may be wanting to minimise the risk of blood clots sine birth control increases the risk of blood clots, esp in thise who are overweight or obese

I was asked to stop 4 weeks before and not to start them again for 4 weeks weeks after bc birth control and surgery both increase the risk for blood clots, so they don't want to stack your risk factors.

I was told I could continue taking any pills that were smaller than a pencil eraser. My birth control is smaller than that so I never had to stop taking them.

I just found out today; BC can increase your chance of blood clots. BC increases blood thickness. That is why we are asked to go off it. I was told if I can't then I would have to do blood thinner shots before and after.

I couldn't take mine 2 weeks prior to surgery and can't go back on them until I finish my blood thinners which is a 30 day supply. Sleeved 3/30.

I was told I'd need to get off of all medications that couldn't be crushed or came in liquid form. I just got an IUD instead. I had a rough start with it, but I really enjoy the convenience of it and extra peace of mind to know I'm not screwing up my pills.

This was about two weeks ago :)

My doc told me i needed to stop my oral birth control at least 2 months prior to surgery. I am 1.5 weeks post op and plan to start again Sunday (i just got my period this week). I plan on calling my docs office, but what have you heard about this. Is it ok to take the pill (its so tiny!), should I crush it up? Obviously pending what the doc says, but just curious if anyone has brought this question up to theirs. Thanks!

The only thing I was told about birth control by gynecologist was to not change it until after my surgery. I use the Nuvaring and wanted something different. I'm about a month away from surgery and my Dr's have not advised to stop anything.

I was told to stop taking the pills two weeks before surgery and I could start back taking them two weeks after surgery but they had to be crushed. Now that I'm six weeks out, I'm able to take my birth control pill and Vitamins whole.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
