Liquid diet begins....

Recommended Posts

With my surgery date of April 11, I am officially in the middle of day 2 of the liquid diet. I have two weeks for this... And am feeling like I may kill someone before then. I am so hungry, and apparently everyone in my home feels like they need to eat real food. So prepping meals that I won't be able to eat is awful. Thankfully my husband is taking care of most of this stuff. When does the starving feeling go away?!?

For me, it was getting much better around day 3. Around day 5, I was barely hungry anymore. Now on day 16 of 21, I really only feel hunger right before I'm supposed to have another shake/meal. I'm even noticing that I get annoyed with my dinner if it's too big or not light enough (I'm on a plan with shakes for breakfast/lunch and a high protein/low carb real food dinner). I drank a LOT of sf drinks during the first week to keep the hunger at bay, though.

Every once in a while I'll get a random craving. I'll be sitting at work and all the sudden I'll be like, "MAN I could go for some cheetos right now." But that's all my head talking, I'm really not physically hungry anymore.

It's kinda nice, to be honest. Makes me feel like I can actually do this. :) The two weeks will go faster than you think!

We have the exact same surgery date! I am also on day two of my liquid diet. Drinking tons of Water and eating ice has really helped me. Wishing you the best of luck!

That's cool Brittney! Thanks for the ice tip! I forgot they had suggested that in classes. I've been drinking like its my job!

Do you want to keep in touch and be my "pal" through this?! I'm getting in my own head about all of it. Thankfully I do have a super supportive husband, who is handling my misery well. LoL.

Good luck on your diet! And I'll say a prayer for you on Surgery day!!

I can never have too much support! I would love to keep in touch and know how things are going for you.

I'm fortunate enough to have a supportive husband as well, who even is doing a liquid diet with me (at least around me ;) ).

Prayers for strength during this two and weeks for your surgery!

It does get better! I am on day 9 and after about 3-4 days I would still occasionally get the "oh man that looks good to eat!" Thoughts in my head, but for the most part I am not truly hungry.

@@kjwrn thank you! I'm struggling today but it is better than yesterday I suppose. If only because it's two days closer to the end. Hahaha

Well we have an April 11th group here! I'm scheduled for the same date and of course today is Day 3 of the liquid diet. Yesterday was terrible as far as the hunger was concerned. Today (so far) I'm doing better. I am using a Protein shake (vanilla) with 30 grams Protein in the morning as my coffee cream since they told me no half and half because of the calories. I have had a dull headache for the past 3 days and I don't know if it is because of such low intake or the weather (I live in Northeast Ohio and it keeps going up and down temp wise. Messes with the allergies and sinuses terrible). I'm doing my best, but I have not been able to get to the 800 calories a day yet. I have no problem with meeting the protein because the Premier Protein shakes have 30 grams per, and I also have Boost at 13 grams per, and Kellogg's at 10 grams per (the Kellogg's for me taste terrible), so no problems there. Everything else I eat is sugar free, low carb, or just not many calories, so I think Monday I hit 590 calories, and yesterday was probably around 690. How do they expect you to go two weeks with such small amount of food? Doesn't the body go into starvation mode? Oh well, here's to all of us April 11th candidates for surgery.

Oh, and my husband is very supportive as well. He has been either leaving to eat dinner or making himself salads so I don't smell the food! He's a doll.

Yay for supportive husbands!

I have been using Protein powders/drinks from Bariatric Advantage. I have really enjoyed the vegetable Soup option as something savory, plus being able to use a spoon make me feel like I'm "eating". They also have a ProJoe drink which is already made for you. I pull mine out of the fridge for a quick meal on the go.

I think the large amount of Water I've been drinking has helped with any bad headaches, but I am tired often.

I'm so excited for everyone! Stay strong!

My surgery date is 4/12/16, a day after yours. I'm on day 2 of liquid diet and it's definitely rough. My doctor doesn't allow for any solids including veggies or chicken. Also, 3 days before surgery i'm allowed Clear liquids only. :( I think that's going to be the worst part.

Are any of you converting from lap band to bypass?

I am LOVING the support and all of the dates close or same as mine! It is sort of nice knowing I'm not alone in my misery. LoL

Hi, this is my first time posting anything. I am converting from lapband to rny. My surgery date is May 6th. I'm so grateful to have this forum to come to when I have questions and concerns. I'm very nervous that I'm going to fail just like I did with the lapband. Anyways, good luck to everyone.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
