Yesterday the 28th was my day. Glad it's over. Have to agree about dry throat and mouth. They just gave me mini sponge to wet mouth. I got very sick yesterday so slept a lot but last night nausea passed and I was able to walk a little. Gas X strip help do much, it's been hard to pass anything. All is well. So excited to what's to come in life now. Oh yeah..of course belly is real sore. Nonetheless...no regrets. Best of luck to all

You must be so thirsty you poor thing

Im hoping by now you have had some Water let me know how that goes each time I sip I get some either pain or noise or both I'm starting to get stomach spasms and pain in shoulders now

But no vomiting or anything so that's good it hurts to breathe deep and bend over but other than that I'm all good

Yeah, I had to do the swallow test twice. That stuff was so nasty!! I'm drinking a little medicine up with Water, some Jello and/or broth. I should take 15 min just on one medicine cup. I'm getting spasms as well. No vomiting! I dry heaved so bad last night. Glad it's passed. Off the IV now too.

Shell- yes they finally let me drink but same as you it was painful. They also gave me some chicken broth and sugar free Jello but it was grosssss! Yuck hospital food. I'm probably going to be discharged by 3 or so and it is 11:20. I'm still in bed getting my morphine- now I have a headache. But they won't let me leave until I pass gas and that didn't happen yet so I'm just a sitting duck unfortunately. And I'm exhausted cause my lovely roomie talked in her sleep. Ahhhhh I'll be ok! Still Super happy with the decision despite the pain and being exhausted. Keep me posted on you as well!

Im 4/11 also

Hey everyone! I know there was a bunch of us getting surgery tomorrow 3/28 so I figured I would post and see if we can all maybe keep this thread going. I know we will be bored in the hospital and in bed the next week or so. And it would be great to share experiences because we all know exactly what the others are going through at the exact time- unlike friends and family who try to help and support us but they just don't understand. Feel to shoot me a message as well! Good luck!

Pleased to hear you can have liquids.

I'm not allowed anything but Water till later today it's 6.00 in the morning here.

I was awake every hour or two through the night gas pain in my neck and shoulder the heat pack helped some.

Have had spasms in my stomach all night I think the full effects of the drugs in surgery are wearing off so it's pretty painful. I just got some more morphine and another one for nerve pain nausea meds and an injection to thin my blood. I'm in hospital till Thursday today its Wednesday here.

I can burp but I don't think I could do the other at all good luck with that. ???? maybe if you can't do it you can stay in and stayed dosed up I've been bringing liquid back up a little like regurgitation maybe not pleasant all I can taste is yucky pills. Let me know how it goes getting home and settled ok

How's everyone feeling? I'm doing pretty well no nausea or spasms (knock on wood). I just had a cup of broth with some unflavored Protein. Soon some more pain meds and more rest.

My surgery went quick. Haven't needed as much pain meds as I expected. Yesterday's ice chips, water, broth... everything made me feel like throw up. Doing better today, they finally took me off iv fluids. Did not enjoy getting drain removed, not one bit. Managed to shower. Still so tired

I'm still having spasms but doc said in couple days it should pass. Hard getting in and out of bed but managing. Sipping on Protein and Water but can't tell when full yet. I'm going slow and listening to my belly. So glad it's over. Looking forward to full recovery.

I was just thinking the same thing

How do I know when I'm full I've just had yogurt in hospital and I can't tell when to stop I've had about 4 teaspoons so far so odd they gave me that when my NUT said shakes only until Monday then I can go onto purée liquid consistency. I'm going home today so that's good

My sleeve was on 3/28/16 . Im having a hard time getting anything down and keeping it there but each day gets a lil better. Unfortunately for me, my hospital stay will be a little more lengthy than others. Because of my mitral valve replacement im on blood thinners which caused me to be admitted on 3/25/16 to thicking my blood up before surgery. Now im waiting for it to thin back out before i can return home.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
