Any Medics out there?

Recommended Posts

Fingers crossed, I'll be sleeved in April! I currently work at a 911 service as a medic and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't terrified about lifting when I return to work. Doc says I should be good to go in 4-6 weeks, but I'm just fearful about something happening when I'm doing something really strenuous. Anyone?

Nurse here. Same deal I lift all the time. My surgeon said 4-6 weeks too. I'm taking the full 6 to be on the safe side. By six weeks postop I want to be able to exercise anyway. I don't think you need to worry as long as you wait like they tell you.

Doc says I should be good to go in 4-6 weeks

@@FluffyMcMarsh

as EF Hutton says

"when doc talks everyone listens!!"

if your doc gives you permission to go back to work in 4-6 weeks that's great

don't go back to work til you feel 100%

not good for you or patient!!

volunteer paramedic wife here - does that count ;)

hubby had surgery on his shoulder a couple of years ago

doc wouldn't approve his return for 6 months!!!!

but that was his shoulder NOT his tummy

normal OP have to wait 6 weeks to lift after WLS

each doc is different - listen to him only (or me too LOL)

for example you aren't supposed to lift a baby for a couple of weeks or so

20 lbs or so ( i think)

baby has to change his own diapers in the mean time! LOL)

maybe you will be able to go back to work sooner than later

since it's "just" your stomach involved

so IMO - maybe 6 weeks or so (just MY thought) you can go back to work

maybe 1/2 days?

no medical person here

just a smart cookie in the house!! LOL

hopefully you will be back to work sooner than later!!

good luck with sleeve surgery in april

speedy recovery

kathy

I'm a medic. I took the full 6 weeks off, glad I did. Even the first 2 weeks after I went back, I struggled some. It was more of a strength/energy thing more than lifting though. Best of luck to you!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
