Ok, I really need to know if anyone has experienced any enhanced senses since their surgery. I know this sounds odd, but my sense of smell has gone up dramatically. It began right away!

On this past Wednesday, the day after my RNY, I was taken for the upper GI test, where you drink that yucky Fluid while they take pictures to be sure everything is working. The radiologist whom I worked with was a very nice guy, but to me his aftershave was quite strong. Also, when my wheelchair was sitting in the hallway as I waited to be taken back up to my room, I could smell people's lunches in the closed staff room. The woman who returned me to my room reeked of Bath & Body Works lotion, which is something normally pleasant to me, but was so strong.

Is this normal? I'm not worried, perse, since it's not debilitating or anything, just a bit baffled...

Not my sense of smell but it altered my taste dramatically. I remember the first time I tasted ketchup after surgery, it tasted like strong hot sauce.

Oh My Gosh!! [emoji1]!!! I found someone who is experiencing what I am!! HELLO, NOSE-IM GLAD TO MEET YA'! Ha ha ha!!!! I began smelling everything my first day in ICU. Even though I was a fresh post op, I swear I could guess what the night shift was eating from my private, curtained room. When I moved to IMC Care, I enjoyed all the aromas of other people's trays as they were served!! Upon doing exercise played by the Doc, I was tickled silly to wander up and down various hallways and smell anything from food to unmentionable odors [emoji51]!! You are indeed normal and obviously not alone as long as my sniffer takes on a life of its own!! [emoji38]

Yes!!! I noticed in the hospital, at home, in the grocery store, etc.

Weird how the surgery can change your sense of smell.

Oh yeah, I remember super nose. I was in the hospital for 2 nights, and fortunately had the most awesome nurse ever. She would tell me when she was gonna sneak in a lunch break, then I could smell the food being nuked-almost like it was right in my room, LOL! Then on the ride home, I got into our car, and the smell! Stinky car, I asked my husband if it always smelled that bad!

Super nose only lasted 3 or 4 weeks for me. My taste buds are slowly coming back to normal. I am going on 16 weeks post-op.

Omg! I smelled someone's Chinese food in the break room at the hospital, and things I'd also rather not mention...my husband toasted a bagel for himself this morning, and it wafted through the house to me. I didn't normally smell something like that before...

I'm 6 weeks out and I have stopped inhaling when people pass me in the grocery store. Let's just say the smells are unpleasant. Lol

I drove my husband nuts on Friday, my first full day home. I was on the couch, covered with a blanket. I got a whiff of it and immediately threw it off. Same with the pillow under my head. Hubby had to wash all the blankets. When he brought them back to me, he had me "test" sniff them to make sure they were satisfactory. Lol!

i feel like you just described my exact same experience...I mean every last word you said happened to me during the swallow test! I am super hypersensitive to smell and it makes me nauseous in most cases! I hope it doesn't last forever! Good luck to you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
