How to increase protein intake?

Recommended Posts

As of today I am 14days post op. However I am having such a hard time finishing anything. Is anyone else having this issue? I'm planning my meals and calculating food that will increase my Protein intake but I can never seem to anything. It's take me an hour if not more to finish a small Protein Shake. Does this get better with time? what other ways can I make sure I'm getting all my protein in???

@@JessicaMarieee - it will get easier. Focus on staying hydrated, eat/drink Protein first and keep moving!!!! It will happen~

It took me 3 hours to finish a shake in the beginning then an hour and a half. I'm 5 weeks post op now and I can drink my shakes and eat a meal within 30 minutes. Hang in there

It will get a lot easier to eat and drink more quickly. I remember the first time I had a Protein bar once I was allowed solids (couldn't wait to get rid of those damned shakes!) and it took me almost a full hour to eat about 3/4 of it. Wasn't long before I could scarf down a Protein Bar in about 5 minutes.

This early out, just focus on sip, sip, sipping your Protein shakes to get it all in.

You'll get there. Keep working at it, stay hydrated and advance your diet as directed. I like Fairlife milk products (higher Protein than regular milk) and did a lot of Syntrax nectar Iced lemon tea Protein Drink as it mixes with Water and doesn't get super "thick". Lots easier to get down in the early stages and you can sip it all day.

Thanks every one for the feedback ! i know its still a bit "early" and my nutritionist said it was normal but I just got nervous seeing how long it took me to finish any drink. My biggest fear is not getting enough Protein and then my body start taking bad effects to it, like hair loss and the other side effects.

Thank you for the the suggestions, going to look into the different milk options as well to add to my intake!

I pretty much have a strong dislike for all whey Protein powders. I find the best way for me to keep my protien (and water) intake up is to mix 3/4 cup non fat greek yogurt with 1 cup skim milk (even more protein) and 1 cup Water. I will then add a little bit of mango or blueberries (something with no seeds) for some healthy sweetness, and throw it all in my nutri bullet. Way yummy! 27 grams of protein.

that's exactly what I'm waiting for ! the chugging process to be much easier, that way I know my intake will increase ASAP ! patiently waiting for that day where I don't feel the discomfort anymore ????

I need to try that ! even if it takes me 3 hours to drink the more Protein the better , the less I'll need to worry about drinking by the end of the day

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
