If you will share a little more specific details and you will get much better advice!! How far out post-op are you? What are you eating for Protein and meals now?

Are you taking a PPI? Stomach acid issues can be common the first few months... and can cause a rumbling gnawing feeling that feels just like intense hunger. Might be worth checking out if you aren't already taking Omeprazole or some other PPI. As for overeating... weighing your food can stop that. It takes very little to make the stomach full now... Make sure you aren't just feeding your mouth!

For Protein shakes, you may have to try several different types to find one you can tolerate. I love the Syntrax Nectars because they come in fruit flavors that mix well with Water... much lighter than the typical chocolate/vanilla options. Isopure makes a ready to drink clear Protein Drink with 40 g Protein per bottle. Premier Protein in chocolate is one of the most highly recommended as tasting good and not being gag-inducing. I don't know what stage you are food wise, but if you are past purees get your protein from Scrambled eggs, chicken/tuna salad, fish, lean meats, poultry, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. The protein should be the focus of every meal and snack right now.

I went from band to sleeve. I know one minute I can feel like I could eat an entire pizza (just an example of hunger level) and then I sit down to eat, have one bite of something, and then I'm like ughh I'm full. And then 20 minutes later I'll be like okay I'm hungry again. lol. My family has learned to not touch my plate at dinner because I'll reheat it later on when I'm hungry again.

I wasn't great with the Protein shakes and YES I lost hair. I actually cut my hair because of it but honestly, I needed it anyway from years of changing my color (indecisive) so now I am waiting for it to grow back. I remember when I got it cut the girl washing it was shocked at how much came out. She said she never saw someone lose so much hair. I knew it was my fault. So DEFINITELY get that Protein in.

There are many different types of Protein shakes and it is important to find one that you can tolerate. I found that if I blended in a half a banana, it significantly helped to improve the taste.

Thanks everyone I'm 3 weeks post op. I'm on solids and the doc gave me Pepcid but I was on shakes for band that now I just can't tolerate them at all I'm feeling depressed and regretful from guilt of eating things I shouldn't but I'm literally just starving!! And losing hair doesn't help the depression:(.

Sorry that you are feeling so down. Did you have your band out in a different surgery? The surgery/diet related hair loss doesn't usually hit until about 3 months post op.

As for the Pepcid, you need to contact your surgeon or their office. I didn't get relief until I started taking them twice daily... and then the hunger feeling stopped. You may be feeling deprived and having head hunger... Don't let yourself feel guilty for eating things you shouldn't, and then still feeling hungry anyway. Fill up on your Protein and good choices. It is common in the first months to have 3 meals and 2 Snacks daily,,, it is only a few ounces of food for each. Call your doc or nut and let them know what you are dealing with, they can provide the best advice.

Well you still haven't told us WHAT you are eating. There are some great suggestions here of things you should be eating. You actually are not starving, you have head hunger and probably stomach rumbles as your stomach is still healing at 3 weeks; it takes up to 8 weeks to be fully healed. Talk to your surgeon or nutritionist about your eating plan and get help, sounds like you may be lacking guidance in this area.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
