Back to work. How soon?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve this past Thursday December 17. I'm thinking about going back to work tomorrow December 21. I work in an office so it's not a physical job. What's the soonest some of you all went back to work?

PS. I still feel a little weak but my husband will drive me.

I wouldn't push it. For me I was very weak and my back hurt from sitting in one position for too long

Congrats on the surgery!

I was off work for four weeks and should have really stayed off six. I do have a stressful job which involves being in and out of the car a few times a day but I didn't really think I would be so exhausted even in week four. I have a feeling if I had had a desk job I would have been as tired. Be careful with yourself, it's very early days.

When I have my Tummy Tuck etc I am having six weeks off!! :D

I took 3 weeks off and I'm glad I did. After hearing about the recovery time for some people, I figured I would only need a week or 2. But after 2 weeks I still tired easily and had difficulty getting in and out of a car.

Take as much time as you need and don't rush it.

I am 4 days post op and I could go back now if I was taking it easy at work. Listen to your body and use caution. Good luck.

The first week after surgery, I got very tired. I telecommute full time and I worked 1/2 days the week after surgery - I rested when I needed to and I walked, walked and walked some more.

It's important you take care of yourself during the recovery - you just had major surgery. Don't push it.

I probably could have gone back to work if needed at 5 to 7 days post-op. But I'm taking 3 weeks off. There were times during the first week where I could only be comfortable reclining. Not sure what your office setup is like, but if you're feeling well and have access to a reclining chair or bed like in a health center/clinic in case you need it, then go for it.

I work in an office as well and took 3 weeks off and wish I had taken 4 weeks off. So, I guess my message to you is to take as much time off as you can/need and focus on recovering. I found the drive challenging and sitting at a desk and just moving around the office exhausting especially in the afternoon.

Congrats! Take care of yourself and try not to rush back into things!

I went back at 5 days post op - I have an office job as well and only worked half days for the first few days and I did just fine. Good luck!

Thanks. I went back for a few hours today. I got really tired. It's a lot different sitting at home vs sitting in an office. lol. I didn't drive. I just don't feel safe driving at this time even though I'm not taking pain medicine any more. Seeing all the holiday food they had there was hard.

I took two weeks off and was antsy to get back but the first month back was tough, I got tired very easily. Looking back, I think I could have used another week to rest.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
