Recommended Posts

I am 5 weeks post op and went to the bathroom (#2) in my pants at work yesterday. I couldnt hold it and it was extremely embarrassing. Did this happen to anyone else?

Yup. Most of us. Bring a change of clothes and wet wipes.

Never trust a fart until at least a year out.

@@amy.taylor8414 - no, I can honestly say I haven't had that happen yet. I have raced to the bathroom multiple times.

What did you eat before the bathroom trip?

It only happened once to me. I was at work but luckily it was after business hours and I was with friends helping to decorate my office. I ended up just having to throw my boxers away and go commando.

Now for the bad news? After the diarrhea stage there comes the Constipation stage. You may go weeks without a bowl movement. I once went 3 1/2 weeks without one and when it finally happened it felt like my entire digestive tract was cramping. I actually threw up while on the pot. My solution? I've found that if I take gentil laxatives once a week then I can go without the pain and cramping.

I've never had this happen but after a long discussion in another thread, we came to the unscientific conclusion that maybe Probiotics help prevent it. My nutritionist had me on probiotics before I even had my surgery and many others in the thread reported that they never had this problem and took probiotics daily or they had this problem until they started taking probiotics daily. So, if you aren't on probiotics already, you might want to give then a try and see if that helps at all.

I have heard of others having this issue. Thankfully I haven't had bowel issues either way. If it's a matter of probiotics, perhaps it's because I eat a lot of greek yogurt.

haven't actually had that happen but I've come close. I have moments where I'm fine and then the next second...OUT OF MY WAY I HAVE TO GO NOW!! I had to abandon a full cart of groceries and race home once...photo finish

i notice even though i am pre-op i am having less then stable bowel movements and when i have to go its like right the hell now so i am not super excited for possible liquid diet or the many liquid phases after surgery because i might have to bring changes of cloths with me everywhere lol

@, that's because you are eating more Protein and a lot more Fluid. Fluid in, fluid out. After surgery, I had diarrhea until I moved on to pureed foods.

I never had this happen, but I think it's because I have years of training dealing with IBS. I know where all the bathrooms are in any store, restaurant and venue that I've ever visited and the quickest way to get there and recognize the instant the "holy @#! time to run to the bathroom!" feelings start up. ;)

I find that after surgery, I don't go nearly as often now, and when I do have "issues" it's because of dairy - usually milk. So I drink that now if I feel like it's been too long between BMs. :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
