Painful hiccups?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I was sleeved on 11/10. So far so good. I've been eating my purred food and handling it quite well. But afterwards I get these very painful hiccups. Has anyone experienced this? Its the kind of hiccup that sits in your chest. I hate it! I, Hoping to find a way to kick the hiccups. Any advice is welcomed! ????

Eat a little less at each meal/serving and you may find you don't get hiccups. It sounds like your vagus nerve is getting irritated. It runs along the top of the stomach, and if you cram too much food into your stomach, it irritates the nerve. The vagus nerve controls all sorts of involuntary reactions in the upper part of the body, so when it is irritated, people often get the hiccups, a runny nosing, burping, coughing, etc. So if there isn't quite as much food jammed into your stomach, the nerve may not get as irritated.

Happens to me still, at 3 months post-op. For me, it happens after something very specific. I ate too fast. Not necessarily too much, but what I did eat, I consumed too quickly, and it never fails. Even when I know better and tell myself to slow down, sometimes I just eat too fast.

Thanks for the information. I'll try eating les and slower. I'm not estimg much to begin with, but I'll give it a try. How about Protein for you guys? My doctor recommends 60g of protein a day. I find it impossible right now to get there. Are you guys there yet? I'm just managing 1/4 cup of Soup or a yogurt at meals. How on earth does one get 60g in a day?

I was hitting around 70g Protein around 2 weeks out by drinking Protein Shakes and Protein Drinks.

I heard on radio once a trick. It works for me. Hold breath for 10 seconds, keep that in lungs and inhale more air, hold for 5 seconds, inhale more air, hold for 5 seconds and slowly exhale

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
