3 weeks post op - serious fatigue

Recommended Posts

I think I understand why people take more than 2 weeks off from work. I'm getting all my Water, between 60-80 grams of Protein, and I'm taking my Vitamins. I'm beat though, really, really tired. Have others experienced this? When can I expect to get some energy back?

People heal at different rates. Some bounce back quickly and others don't. As long as you bloodwork is fine and you are meeting your nutritional needs, just listen to your body and get your rest

Yes. The 6 weeks I took off were completely worth it in my case. I had mental and physical fatigue that didn't really get better until I was on soft foods and steadily getting in my Protein the first month.

I'm just a bit freaked out since I felt fantastic last week. Fortunately eating stage 4 soft foods is going well and I'm not sore. Trying to focus on the positives.

I was exhausted until week 6.

Some people go back to work a few days after the op, it was enough for me to open my eyes and then I needed another nap lol. Just take it easy and listen to your body and you will be fine :)

I only took 4 days off, but did have exhaustion up til 6 weeks. But then again I also had 3 out of state summer trips during first 4 weeks. I crashed when we finished traveling. After 6 weeks post op my energy came back

I am 4 weeks post op and just now turning the corner energy wise. It was rough at first. I would take a shower and nap; eat a meal and nap; use the bathroom and nap==just like a new born baby.

I have surgery next Tuesday, the 17th. I started my chewable bariatric Vitamins 10 days ago, in hopes that I would avoid the fatigue and hair loss. I guess we will see!!! What kinds of Vitamins is everyone taking?

I am older and retired. I am sooooo glad I did not have to return to work or take care of little ones. I was exhausted until I started on regular foods at one month. About six weeks in I began to feel like I could live with my new normal and had a little energy.

I took six weeks off and was taking daily naps right up until I returned to work. So it was around six weeks for me to get back to normal. Good luck!

Agree with all the above comments. Everyone is different and recovery time is relative. Remember this is still major surgery and recovery time is to be expected.

For me, I was off pain meds and up and driving on day 5 but would tire out easily. Do a little more each day and soon you will look back and see you are back to normal. Then with the weight loss you will gain even more energy!

I bounced back pretty quickly. After a week I was bored and stir crazy. I am also retired so I didn't have a job to keep me occupied. I was taking daily 30 minute walks instead.

The third week is oddly a hard week. I don't know why but even my Dr acknowledged that. Third week after my hysterectomy was very difficult too. Weird

I was more tired from my hysterectomy, but VSG was a breeze.

I was fortunate. I went back to work 5 days after surgery and was never really tired. I didn't over do it just walking and work. I don't have little ones to chase so that made it easier. Good luck everyone it does get easier.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
