Post Op food and diet suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I'm just looking for some suggestions on foods and diet plans. I'm about 3 weeks post op and my nutritionalist has not given me many examples. Currently, I am able to eat soft and mushy foods. I still drink Protein Shakes daily as well. I usually add Protein Powder to my solid foods and use Premier Protein for my liquids. Do you have any better suggestions for Protein Drinks? Which work for you and which ones do not? I know I am only a few weeks out, but I don't feel that much progress is being made. I just started going back to my gym a few days ago, and if you have work out suggestions I'd definitely like to hear from you as well! Thank you!

My pureed and mashed stages were very boring and I had some of the following. I tended to stick to meals that sat well in my sleeve and keep to those for a few days before introducing anything else.

Very soft cooked scrambled egg with a little grated cheese on top.

Soft plain omelette/poached egg/ soft-boiled egg

Very finely minced or pureed chicken or turkey in gravy

Mashed fish in a thin sauce, tuna, salmon or mackerel

Chunky Soups

Mashed cauliflower cheese in a low-fat cheese sauce

Mashed casserole such as chicken stew of a thinnish consistency

Soft Beans and peas, pureed or mashed

Soft mashed avocado

Small portions of home-cooked mashed/pureed main dishes like cottage pie or fish pie.

But then your NUT might disagree. Youd be best getting back in touch with him/her and asking for more examples. S/he should point you in the right direction. As for the gym, when I joined at 8 weeks I explained about the surgery to them and they worked out a great exercise routine for me. I am about to change it up a notch but only after meeting the main trainer at the gym for an assessment to make sure I am okay for it. I guess we all have different areas we want to work on, apart from overall general health benefits and I would rather be safe than sorry

Hope that helps!

Agreed. My puree and soft foods stage were pretty limited. I didn't mind since I viewed them as temporary. I just stuck t eating things I liked.

I don't necessarily mind the limited options, I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I feel like I'm moving pretty quickly through the stages. I'm worried that since I don't appear to be making progress I might be making some wrong choices. I think I'll get in contact with my nutritionalist.

one of my favorite soft foods was mashed avocado mixed with a medium boiled egg and tuna. I would also add a bit of Sriracha mayo (I've never had an issue with spicy food pre or post op)

I also enjoyed roasted cauliflower mashed up with a wedge of laughing cow cheese

Cottage cheese, avocado, salmon, baked sweet potato and regular potatoes, Vietnamese pho with tendon is a great (rest your gut)option. Don't eat the tendon. It just adds collagenous Protein.< /p>

Homemade chicken salad made in the food processor until it is smooth and add anything you want for flavor. Be creative!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
