I just (like JUST) found out that I am pregnant! I have not told anyone but my husband so far. I won't tell family until the end of the 1st trimester. It's my first pregnancy and I am terrified that something will go wrong. One thing I've been reading is that there is an increased chance of having to have a C-section if you've had WLS. Can anyone tell me if that was their experience? Anything else I should know? I am six years out since the surgery so I am pretty comfortable with getting enough to eat. I am just trying to make really good decisions as far as WHAT to eat. I haven't had morning sickness *yet* not sure how bad that will be... Anyone who could share their pregnancy stories with me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Having weight gain during pregnancy is desirable. Back in the 1970's when we had our children, we went the natural childbirth route. Generally a weight gain of 35 pounds at full term was a minimum to reduce the probability of having a child with a physical birth defect or mental retardation. My wife was small. She weighted less than 100 pounds when she got pregnant and gained 52.5 pounds at full term. She lost all the weight after pregnancy. The weight gain should be on healthy foods such as Protein and fruits, not potato chips and candy bars. Otherwise it can lead to blood toxemia in the latter stages of pregnancy. But having gone through gastric bypass surgery, I think you know the difference. Our children turned out great.

Good luck on your pregnancy and birth. Enjoy the little ones.

I haven't had surgery yet but I have a 3 year old daughter and I had a csection with her. It was basically an emergency one since our heart beats were dropping back n forth. I didn't want a csection at all and it was rough recovery. It sucks when you can't get up right away for your baby. But it is worth it in the end. Children are a blessing. Congrat! Everything will be okay.

C-Sections have been a thing in my family so I am pretty resigned to the fact that I will likely need one. I am glad to hear that you made it through. I appreciate the info!

This is my first pregnancy too. I'm almost a week away from the second trimester, and didn't have any morning sickness. I have thrown up a couple of times, but I think that was more surgery related than baby related. I have just been really tired lately...lots of naps. I heard that is just a first trimester thing though, and energy levels should pick up soon. I get my first sonogram on the 15th, and can't to see my little peanut. It's very exciting isn't it. Good luck with your little blessing!

Sadly I lost my baby at the end of November. Trying again but it has been rough. Luckily my doctor does not think my surgery contributed in any way to the miscarriage. Thank you to everyone who gave me support and advice. I appreciate it so much.

It might just be too soon to see the baby yet. Hopefully that's the case. I got pregnant about 7 month after my surgery and although my baby was tiny (4lbs 8oz) he is perfectly healthy and growing like a weed. I only gained 5 lbs during my pregnancy and lost 20 immediately after delivery. I hope all goes well with your pregnancy. Good luck and congratz!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
