Lap Band Fills / Adjustment Info

Recommended Posts

lynn: Yes. I have had a very uncomfortable port after a fill. It was primarily after my second fill and everytime I ate or drank anything it hurt enough that I had to put pressure on it with my hand until it stopped bothering me. Sometimes that was as long as 20 minutes or so.

I never did get an answer to the question of why this happens, but I have read other posts where people mentioned the same thing.

My band has been interesting, boy these suckers have their own personality dont they? First of all i had 2.5 taken out and then put in after my carrot stuck north of band event. Since then i have lost 4lbs very, very slowly. I think my band is perfect (I have 4cc band). I was up at clearwater south beach two weekends ago and had gotten hungry and ate some peanuts. BIG,BIG mistake! I thought i was going to have to go to emergancy room. Projectile vomiting off and on for more than 1 hour. So i didnt eat any solids for a week. Now it seems my band has tightened of all things and I can only eat (very, very) slowly maybe 1/2 cup food and absolutely no white flour products, etc. want to keep it this way until i drop down to desired weight!....Anyone set at this perfect setting and loving it?

Oh my gosh, I could not agree with Julier more! My band certainly seems to have its own life. It responds differently to things I have eaten before all the time. Why, I have no idea. But I might guess it is because bodies are ever changing and so the band, which is now part of my body, does the same. It makes me really slow down and listen to its needs. I have never been good at doing that and it is probably a good thing to do . Frustrating-but good.

All, I have trouble with chicken, but I am real good with steak and shrimp. I have a 10cc band and only 3cc's filled. I am hoping for at least one more cc on 5/4.;)

I have a fill scheduled tomorrow- It was scheduled 3/31!! I called monday 4/16 to verify- Ins company has no record of receiving request for it. Office says they sent it 4/4. so it gets resent on 4/17!! The office calls and says that precert from my ppo has not been recieved. They want to reschedule my fill! BS!!!!! they said even though I will pay for it- they have to have denial to allow that! NOT SO!! i called today and the ins said, it was not resubmitted as rush- I could go just realize that i may have to pay for it if medical review finds not medically necessary. Im getting my fill in the am- ins or pay- THATS not fair- it is NOT in my control!! Sorry for the rant...

Any suggestions? Am I out of line??

gonnabethin: you in no way sound out of line. You sound very frustrated and I don't blame you!! Hang in there. It has been my experience that medical office administrative staff and definitely the insurance offices are usually overloaded and anything that isn't stuck right under their noses can easily get pushed aside.

Reading about the problems of everyone who has to pay for each adjustment makes me so happy with my circumstances. My fills are all included for 2 years. As many as I need. Of course I paid out the nose initially for it, but everything is so much simpler and there's so much less paperwork.

It is so important though that you get what you need for this thing to do its job for you. Do whatever it takes to get the paperwork shoved through. You're being proactive and that's what counts. You shouldn't have to lead everybody by the hand to get your fill tomorrow, but as frustrating as it is, it will be worth it for you. Good luck for tomorrow!

I got my fill- they charged 250 to my flexible spending- if the insurance pays they will credit it, it they dont pay thats where it belongs anyway!

Im just relieved I got a fill. The office was thrilled at my SLOW progress, and filled me and sent me on my way!!

Yea. You got it! I hope it gives you the results you're looking for. I had a fill several weeks ago and it really slowed me down at mealtime. But unfortunately Snacks started being the thing. I'm going to hang in for a while without so much restriction and see how I do. The hunger thing isn't really too bad right now.

I have had my 4th fill. I have had a hard time eating. I cant eat anything in the morning. I can only drink. I eat very little at lunch and I throw up alot. I am taking small bites and I am chewing well. I think I may be too tight. Any suggestions? I go back to the doctor on May 24 for another fill. I am afraid to get another. I had my surgery on December 18, 2006 and I have lost 49 pounds. I love the losing weight, but I hate throwingup. HELP!

Hello,

I went to the dr today. He did a fill, this hurted. They told me that the first fill is a little uncomfortable. That was putting it mildly. Did the first fill hurt anyone else. Then I was told to stay on Clear Liquids for 24 hrs. Dang, if I knew that I would have eaten before going to his office. Lol. Thank you

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
