Anyone try jalapeños peppers?

I really wanna make a stuffed ground turkey and low fat cream cheese scallion and garlic popper and bake it in the oven not fried! No batter either! I made these prior to surgery so yum and healthy just don't know if I can eat the jalenpeno!! I had gastric bypass FYI

I am a sleeve patient, so maybe does not apply... but I felt the need to be pretty gentle on my new little tummy the first 6-12 months... well who I am a kidding? I really don't eat hot spicey food anymore and I am 4 years out. Proceed with caution...

Personally I don't have an issue with spicy food but I would start slowly. Maybe try something with a dash of hot sauce on it first to see how it sits

I eat jalapeños, salsa, siracha, etc. but in small amounts.

As in introducing all new foods, take it slowly and in small amounts and see how it goes.

Oddly enough, I seem to have a higher tolerance for spicy foods now than I did before surgery. Go figure! :rolleyes:

Like the posters above, I reccomend starting slowly and seeing how you tolerate spice. Maybe dice up a little bit of pickled jalapeno (less spicy than fresh) and mix it in with some refried Beans.

I have hot sauce and hot wings all the time, no issues at all. I am a sleeve patient though, no idea what its like for RNY patients.

What is interesting is prior to surgery I did not do spicy. Now, I crave spicy all the time!

It all depends how far out you are. I would not try it until I was cleared for regular foods. For me, that was 8 weeks post op but even then I am not sure my tummy would have handled it well.

It was about 4 months post op before I really started to eat things like jalapeños.

Just go very slow.

I am hispanic so i often eat hot sauce and jalapeños. Everything i eat has to be spicy if not i feel like the food is not good. I guess i will have to see how i tolerate spicy food including jalapeños after my surgery and when i start solids. Good luck, that does sound delicious!

I would recommend you introduce spicy food slowly (try a little and see how you respond to it).

I never had a problem with spicy food, but everyone is different. I had the VSG and enjoy spicy food. In fact I have some salsa I am going to eat as a snack later that I "amped up" with fresh jalapenos (and other veggies).

little hijack i must tell you

12 year old grand-son loves jalapeños peppers

he was telling his little brother (5 at the time)

to try the hot peppers

peppers are great, you will love them :)

after eating a little bit

poor little Ethan cried, and screamed, and... :wacko:

kids can be meanies to there siblings!!

but i gotta love them both!!

back to our regularly scheduled program

you probably have some spices in the house

put a little on a tsp

check it out slowly

experiment

then a little more, than more than......

you might immediately find you can't tolerate them

or you have no problems

by the way - i always pass on jalenpeno!!

I love jalapeno! I was cautious the first couple of times, but never had any issues. Like everyone else has said, try a little and see how you feel.

Too soon for you but yes, I am able to eat spicy foods now. You really need to be gentle on your new stomach.

My doctor recommended not having anything hot or spicy for at least 12 weeks post-op. That was actually supposed to be today (or yesterday, 10/28). A few weeks ago I was out of town and went to a restaurant. I ordered a garden salad with chicken. I read all the ingredients thinking it was normal stuff but somehow missed the pico de gallo in it. Took a bit, realized what it was and decided to go as slowly as possible eating the salad. I was fine, and I've added salsa, jalapenos or serranos to my food ever since with no issues. I was a few weeks early with it, but I'm ok.

So as others said, you may want to ask your doctor/nutriontionist, wait a bit longer post-op, and go slowly.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
