Anyone else feel scared they'll gain it back?

  • Popular Post

So I've lost over 80 pounds by following my doctor's plan as ordered. I have a whole new me and feel so blessed! I do go off track sometimes though and even just one bite of something wrong makes me so incredibly anxious. I worry constantly that I'm going to gain back the weight and will have gone through all of this for nothing. It's almost as if it's too good to be true. I just started seeing the counselor at our weight loss clinic and she says it's a normal stage. Just wondering if others feel anxious and worried like this as well?

You've got to think about maintenence. How long can you maintain the way you currently are eating? If you don't feel deprived, then Kudos to you! But if you feel a bit deprived, that's really no way to live. That's the ol' DIET mentality. You've gotta live life, too. The rest of your life is a looong time! :)

Yes I do. I'm working on it. I'm right below goal. Would like to drop a few more lbs before officially going into maintenance. How are you eating now Babbs? I know you just went into maintenance.

I'm actually in the same boat you are....I'm wanting to lose a few more pounds. So I technically haven't hit maintenance quite yet. I'm still eating to lose, basically. But I've upped my calories a bit (1300) and will have some whole grain bread with a sandwich every now and then, and occasionally a treat like a cookie or alcohol. So I'm slooooowly going into maintenance mode while still trying to lose a few more. Does that make sense?

The weight is not wanting to seem to come off at this point, though, so I may be done for now :)

It makes perfect sense! We are in the same boat. I actually just changed my calorie limit in MFP to 1400. I never even come close. Usually around 1100. I'm trying to add some more veggies. I consistently get over 100 g of protein a day so I'm good in that department. Thanks for the support!

Babbs, I bet you're going to be surprised.

Weight loss this close to your below-goal goal ;) goes slower. But it still goes.

I feel a little nervous about regain but I try to stay healthy. I don't obsess about it as much. I have lost 153lbs and want to lose 20lbs more. I weigh 176 currently so I'm not considered obese now just slightly overweight. I hope I can do it 3 years almost 4 since surgery. ???? pray for me!!

Thank you everyone for your responses to my post... It helps to know I'm not alone. I think for me, the feeling scared and nervous part has to do with that I finally found the answer to my very long struggle with weight and am so thankful and happy that I wonder at times if it will last. But, I am not going to focus on that... I am taking this gift I've been given and will continue to do my part by eating right, exercising, seeing my counselor, and remembering to stay diligent (as one of you said)... Life is pretty great right now! :)

I'm terrified of gaining weight back. I can't stop thinking about, lost 86lbs in 7 months. I'm at 21 bmi so normal weight. Now I think I'll get it all back. I feel like I can't relax and just enjoy my weight loss, I journal food every day in getting in about 1200/1400 cal a day 100 gr protein. My next nutritionist appt in December 17th, I feel I need more guidance on how to maintain my weight.

Anyone that isn't scared is kidding themselves.

I'm letting that fear help drive the action plan I'll have in place for when I reach goal.

Glad to see this post as I worry all the time about regain too. I still find it very difficult to weigh myself and put it off not believing I am still losing (sleeved 4th September). So many years of disappointing weighs after all the past best intentions on diets!

@AvaFern "But every day I can get on my scales I have quantifiable proof that I'm not worthless anymore " This bought tears to my eyes. It really did. It took me losing weight to feel I was valuable. I am so mad, angry at myself for not loving me and thinking I was valuable before. I was amazing then but I was to depressed and ashamed to see it. I regret not loving the old me like I should.

Completely agree with this.

That's awesome! Since surgery in July I have lost 42 lbs. Since my first surgeon appt & I started pre op diet in May I have lost 67 lbs. I am excited but I do get worried when I stall.

I have a healthy fear of regain. Its a reality. Statistically, it's a truth. I've already beaten statistics by losing nearly all my excess weight. I've kept it off three years, but I know that could all change in a short time. I still track my intake and weight daily. It takes very little calories for me to maintain my weight, so diligence and restriction are required. I've done a few short term experiments of just being careful and not tracking, or a day or two of letting myself "have a break" and every time it results in significant and immediate weight gain. I then have to work a little harder to get that back off. I use that information to know what I have to do to maintain.

Every day I feel like I've been given a gift, and I'm not going to squander it. I am cautiously optimistic I can keep it off, but I have no illusions that it does not require a tremendous amount of effort on my part.
