Hi physically I'm doing fine,,, sore and bloated,, but I have now come to the reality of battling my addiction to eating,, I am bored ,, but too soon after surgery to do too much

I have no appetite whatsoever but my mind tells me go in and eat something you'll feel better go cook something anything with do with food, ,, although I'm not hungry! It a emotional crutch,,, I think the battle to defeat my mind will be the hardest battle I will fight,, for it knows all the right buttons to push

But on the bright side I have gone through this battle with my mind when I quit smoking,, going on 4 yrs smoke free,,, and I know every day,, week ,, month I go with out giving in to this mind game that I'm playing ,,, it will become easier,,

Hi, I'm scheduled for Oct 20th, here in CA. I am on day 5 of the pre-op diet and have realized that the weekends are the hardest while spending time with family/friends and being limited to Protein Shakes, chicken broth & 1 Protein Bar a day. I am so looking forward to this new chapter in my life. Good Luck to everyone and I would love to keep in touch!

that's really cool laylay!! what part of sc are you in? my brother and nephew are around Spartanburg, and I used to live in Horry County with my family from 1995-1997, I start my liquids on 10/17, all liquids for 10 days...then pretty much the same for first 2 weeks post op

I'm scheduled for 10/26 down here in Texas. I'm definitely feeling a mixture of things...but I'm mostly excited to start this next chapter in my life!! I spent my childhood, teens, 20's and half my 30's being overweight-super morbidly obese. This ends later this month! I'm finally taking control! I want to set a better example for my daughter!!

I got my surgery date today. My surgery is the 26 also! I'm in SC. I'm happy n nervous all at the same time! Start the pre-op diet on the 12th. 2 shakes n one meal a day!!

Hi I'm in Williamsburg County. I'm suppose to start my diet today. Two shakes and a high Protein meal for dinner. I actually started on Thursday. A couple of days early ????. I kinda messed up yesterday tho but not to bad. Anyway back on the band wagon for good now! It's crunch time now. 13 more days before surgery! Are you nervous?

I have been on all liquids since 9/30 and I can see it really negatively effecting my mood. I think if I were able to have one healthy meal a day, it would have been a total game changer--so much easier! But, I've lost 14 lb, so I feel good about that. Wednesday can't come soon enough!

So I'm just gonna say some stuff . Maybe it will sound crazy - if so I blame it on liquid diet for 2 weeks lol-

Maybe its stuff you all thought about also.

I had the strangest thought the other day- what if this doesn't work either????

I mean, I have spent a small fortune ( enough to fund a small country I 'm sure) over the years on pre packaged foods plans, gyms , exercise equipment, trainers, pills, shots,drinks,-----did I miss anything???

and what if this too fails???

Is anyone else alittle freaked out?

I just needed to get it off my chest to people that (hopefully) get it.

Thanks for your support !

My blood work came back and my white blood cells are elevated. I have to go for more blood work and if they are still elevated they will cancel surgery. I am devastated.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
