Pregnant and Banded...come join me!

Recommended Posts

Hi. I was banded 2 years ago today! March 19th of 2007. So much has changed. I started at 389 pounds and today i weigh 189 pounds--200 pounds in 2 years! I have never had a fill and have been doing awesome as long as I keep up with the gym.

A few days ago I took 2 pregnancy tests, lol--DID NOT believe the first one--and it was positive...which completely floored me. The only symptoms I had had up to this point (my period was due on March 4th) was feeling very very tired, very sore breasts and soreness by my port. my port area always got sore and "more puffy" when my period was near. My port does seem more slanted or something...i can't quite explain it. how do you know if a port has been flipped?

Anyway, I can't get in to my first OBGYN appt until April 10th and I'm trying to stay calm and relaxed even though I'm really worried. I'm 39 years old, still 50 pounds overweight and have the band. I know for my age that miscarriage rates are high and that worries me.

I guess I'm just looking for some replies from others who are in or have been in a similar situation.

Thanks! I think I'm still in a state of shock and disbelief LOL. I feel compelled to take another test just to confirm that I'm still pregnant! LOL

Virginia

These days being 39 is not a huge concern...we have the BEST healthcare available to us...the doctors will put you through EXTRA tests etc. to be sure your baby is okay...as for your weight you are not doing bad at all! My first child I weighed 250 lbs when I got prego and I was 35, I actually didn't gain much weight with that baby because I ATE everything I wanted to anyway...that is WHY I was so heavy...now i'm banded, it's four years later and i'm at 200 lbs....all I have to say is take it easy on the sweets, try to get some walking in, do what your doctor says and be relaxed....trust me it will make a BIG difference on the temperament of your child by how relaxed or NOT you are!! oh and CONGRATS! :tongue_smilie:

I haven't posted on this forum for a long time but thought this might be the place to come back into. I am 16 weeks with our second baby and am not going well. My band only has 4 cc in and I am throwing up everything that goes down. Some days are ok but others I can't even get fluids down. It feels so tight that I often only eat one meal a day and its never very much. I have tried going back to liquids which hasn't really helped. One day I can eat something with no worries and then the next day it could be making me sick. I think I need to get an unfill. I am just so sick of throwing everything up.

I had the same problem and had to get a complete unfill. Now I feel sooo much better and the baby is growign healthily. The sooner you get an unfill, the better for both you and the baby.

Well I went and saw my surgeon today and he did a complete unfill. He said it should help heaps and it has. I came home and was able to drink Water plus I had some low fat yogurt. For dinner I made pumpkin Soup. It felt so good to be able to eat a bit and not throw it straight back up. He also weighed me and in 5 days I had lost 1.5 kg, mostly because I couldn't keep even Fluid down. At least I know that the baby will now be getting proper nutrition plus I can go back to the eating plan my dietitian has me on. I am feeling much happier again :frown:.

That is wonderful news, isn't the relief unbelievable? It is so nice to eat normally again after suffering for a little while trying to get in enough calories.

Thank you.....I feel huge!! I am due June1st. So we are only about 1 week apart. Is this your first baby? This is my second. So you had a complete unfill?? I am still filled. I am having another ultrasound in a few weeks to see if baby is growing. My belly is measuring right on schedule. it just kinda feels weird not gaining weight during pregnancy. I am wondering if I will weight less after the baby is born. That would be nice!!

This is my second baby but my first is 16 and almost grown. You might just find that you start gaining a little now that you are further along . . . but keeping a fill will make a difference.

I think cherryblue is also going to deliver around the same time we are, give or take a week. It is nice to know a few other bandsters that are at the same gestational phase. :0)

Hello Everyone, I can't believe that I am in this group. I was just banded on 12-22-08. Just three months ago and just found out I was three weeks pregnant. I am happy but scared, because it is so early on. Anyway, I trust that my baby and I will be fine.

I just found out last week that I am pregnant. My first OBGYN appt isn't until 4/16, so I have told myself not to get too excited until I see him. I am a worry wart anyway, so I am really nervous about this whole process. I was banded almost a year ago, 4/23/08 and we have been trying for a few months now. I called my lapband Dr and they told me that I didn't need to have an unfill unless I was having a problem keeping down foods, and as long as my OB thinks I am getting good nurtrition that I won't have to have any removed. Anyone else been told this?

And I can't ever get these stupid tickers to work!!

I had 6 cc and had to have all removed except for 2 cc because I was 4 months with no weight gain. However I am 21 weeks and have gained 5 pounds now. So I think everyone is different depends on you.

I am 6 months preggo and have kept my fill. It wasn't horribly tight to begin with, I've gained about 13 lbs. But I do have my tight days...today is one.

Congratulations everyone . . . there are so many new preggos to join our thread.

There must be something about the beginning of Spring, or maybe it is in the LBT Water. I hope you all post frequently to keep everyone updated on progress.

Hey Everyone!

Congratulations to all the pregnant ladies! If you have read back to the beggining of the thread.. I was here pregant in 2007, my first child was born in Feb of 2008.. and I just found out yesterday.. (home test) that I am pregnant again! YIPEEE I was banded on March 6, 2006, starting at 305 lbs. I lost 113 lbs in one year then found out I was pregnant.. I got a complete defill.. and what a mistake for me that was.. gained 20 lbs in a month! So I got a small fill and gained a total of 50 lbs with my son. I still havent lost all of it.. as I have had gallbladder issues.. and still am having. I had my gallbladder out in Feb, but still have stones stuck in the bile ducts.. so am supposed to be getting that fixed in 3 days.. but.. now I dunno.. I am scared! I have attacks anywhere from 3 to 5 times a day/night. I hope that the ERCP wont hurt the baby.. or be post poned.. I am guessing the pregnancy has doubled the problem as this past 3 weeks has been worse than ever! At anyrate, I am so thrilled to be pregnant again.. my son is 14.5 months now and we are really hoping for a baby sister for him!

Congrats to everyone again!

Candice

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
