Congratulations!!!

I remember my first appointment - it was exciting and fun but there was one thing I wasn't aware of that shocked me.

I knew I would get the first ultrasound and just couldn't wait . . . I had visions of the goo being placed on my belly and my little bean dancing around on the computer screen, lol. However, no one told me that it is an, umm, internal ultrasound.

I had to be embarassingly present while my husband asked "you have to stick that where????" The goo doesn't go on the belly for the first one, lol.

Good luck!!! I hope you are feeling really well during these early weeks. It is a long but entirely worthwhile journey. :0)

Thank the good Lord I didn't have to have an internal U/S for my first one (on either child)...I did later as my pregnancy progressed on child #1 as I had a bad placement of my placenta and they wanted to watch it as well as some type of cyst?, but on this child (knock on wood) I haven't had to have any internal U/S...it usually depends on several factors: the mother, the fetus, placement of the placenta etc on whether they will subject you to this type of U/S...in all fairness if it's BEST for baby, I know we would all do it, but I was NOT a big fan....during one of mine, my rear is facing the door. The wand is still....in....the technician leaves to get a doctor to come "look" and I was feeling quite exposed and uncomfortable with my pants around my ankles and the door opening/closing/people coming in and out....I never used that particular technician again.

Good luck and remember, it's messy , it's ugly but it's WORTH it!

Hi Ladies,

Well I am at week 31 with my second band baby! And we have found out that it is a girl!! I will now have one of each! YAY!! I know that way back in the beginning of this forum I told you all about my story, but will do a quick update. With my first pregnancy, I got a complete de-fill by week 4 as I was also getting married at the same time. BIG MISTAKE! I gained 20 lbs in 2 weeks! I got my fill back but by then it was too late.. the gaining was on. I gained a total of 50 lbs with my son, who was born by emergency c-section. I ended up with pnemonia as was sick with flu to pnemonia the last month of my pregnancy. I was induced 5 times and after being a week overdue and in hospital for 3 weeks already, ended up with an emergency c-section. My son's heartbeat was irratic then quit all together for about 10 seconds, thankfully it came back. I was rushed to OR at 5 am and had him by 5:42 AM.. healthy as can be. (the cord was wrapped around his neck with both hands under it which is why his heart stopped with every contraction, he was pulling the cord off his neck) Now pregnant with my second, I had my gallbladder removed shortly before getting pregnant, and still had severe pain in my stomach, and went for an ERCP turned out my bile duct was closed shut, but I was already pregnant by then. I have had nausia with this pregnancy, and severe Constipation to the point of tearing my self even on meds. I was put on sick leave in August due to this issue. At anyrate, for some reason I am starting to get the acid pain again in my stomach. I believe my band has kept it from coming back up but it always hits me between 4 and 7 am and I have to sit up completely for 15 mins or so for it to dissipate. I am at the point now where its hard to breathe as well. This baby is very high! I have not touched my band at all this pregnancy other than to add a bit more in the beginning as I didnt want to gain another 50 lbs. I still hadnt lost all of the weight I gained with my son. I was thrilled to go in each time and was losing weight, although my doctor wasnt happy about it, however the baby is doing just fine. I had my doc appt this week, (now every 2 weeks I see my doc) and in total I have gained 6 lbs and I am 31 weeks! That to me is sooo exciting, I am not near as huge as I was with my son, but I attribute that to it being a girl, totally totally different pregnancy! I look like I have a basketball under my breasts! LOL My port does not protrude either, I know its there, but no one can see it. With my son you could tell even by looking at me from the back I was pregnant this time not so much! I did have a big boy born 8 lbs 13 oz, although they u/s tech figured he would be closer to 10 lbs!! This baby is in the normal range not the large range! YAY! I am scheduled to have another c-section on December 9th. I am so excited. I can not have a regular v-birth due to the tearing in my bum and the complications from my sons birth, dissapointing, but at the same time, I know WHEN she is coming! And thankfully before x-mas! I do know that just before my c-section I do plan to get a small de-fill. After my son was born, with all the pressure and pushing they did around my port area and the band area, I had quite a bit of swelling, and wasnt able to eat or drink for over 12 hours afterwards. So this time I am going in a bit more prepared. Ok I have babbled enough! LOL sorry! Hope you are all doing great in your pregnancies!

Candice

I have had the lap band since February, 2006. I went from 225-155 lbs but now I am back up to 185lbs...so depressing...But I have been trying to conceive for almost three years now and after trying several things(Clomid, fertilitt pills, and ovulation monitors) I just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant! I am so excited....my EDD is 6/26/2010. I am going in to the doctors to get completely unfilled because my morning sickness has been unbearable....

Congrats! I too had a complete unfill and darnit yes i've gained 50 lbs but have enjoyed myself completely eating for two so have no one to blame but myself....hubby and I decided once he is here (Nov 16th is Csection unless he comes sooner) we are starting back on watching our waists for our kids sake if nothing else! So at least I have him joining me this time....he is a big time feeder too so this is good.

Enjoy being pregnant don't worry about your weight you've fought long and hard to get here just relax, be happy and dream about what fun this is going to be.

It's confirmed! I'm pregnant! I am so excited! I'm due in mid-July! So far i feel good, but it's very early. I have my first appointment scheduled for Nov 20th where they will do a sonogram and give me a due date and we should be able to see the heartbeat. I hope all goes well!

Yup, it's our first! So far we have just told immediate family. It's a little hard to believe right now since i don't really have any symptoms and i feel the same way i felt last month, but i took a bunch of pregnancy tests and they all confirm, so here's hoping.

Right now i kind of feel like i'm pretending i'm pregnant. The pregnancy tests say i am, but there is no other evidence. I'm enjoying being really excited but in the back of my mind i'm thinking, don't get too excited yet... what if something happens. I'll feel a lot better when a doctor tells me everything looks great. :cursing:

dewl....Congratulations! I am soo excited for you and I know how you feel...My doctor will not see me until after I am at least 10 weeks along...I have an appointment for Dec.1st and it feels like forever away. I want to see my baby and hear the doctor say that everything looks good. I am about 7 weeks along and I have the worst all day sickness, my boobs are sore, my headaches and I have zero energy.....but I'm sooo excited!

My doctor's office likes to schedule appointments for when you're 8 weeks along, but because of Thanksgiving they let me schedule a little early since amazingly my doctor had an opening. I will be between 6 and 7 weeks when i go in on Nov 20th.

I have to admit, i took another pregnancy test this morning (one of the freebies i have from Early-pregnancy-test). Still positive. It seems silly, but i can't seem to help myself and it's interesting to see them getting darker each time i test.

When did you guys start experiencing symptoms? I'm about 4 - 5 weeks now and i have only really been feeling some mild bloating and cramping. I can't decide if been feeling tighter because of the pregnancy or because of an unfortunate run-in i had with some shrimp i decided not to chew well enough (tmi). Same goes for the nausea (could be the shrimp episode still bugging me or could be a pregnancy symptom).

Hi Everyone,

Congrats to all those babies being born.

I'm 18 weeks 6 days with my second however first pregnancy with my band. Things going OK. Have had all Fluid out as have possible minor slip but my doc is extremely confident we can make it to the end without surgery. I an Aussie so my weight measurements are in KG's sorry!! but have lost 7kg since falling pregnant - I think thats about 15 pounds although since having the fluid out I've gained 1.5kg (3-4 pounds). All good, still a lot less than my first pregnancy.

I look foward to hearing everyones experiences. :)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
