Anyone just been sleeved in the last week? (18th Sept today)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I was sleeved on sept 8th and am still so incredibly uncomfortable, full of gas, constipated and have zero energy; I was expecting a two day stay in the hospital (mine was 4.5 days) and a smooth recovery but it's been anything but has ANYONE had anything like this?! I'm having buyers remorse right now even though I know that this was the best thing I could ever do for myself! Aaaaaaaagh!

Hey - are you walking around a lot? I know it seems like it doesn't make sense but moving can really help get rid of gas and help move the digestive tract. Good luck!

I was sleeved on the 17th.

I woke up every hour during the night because I had to pee. And everytime I woke up I walked a lap around the hospital floor. Then a friend came in the morning and we walked about 10 laps. When my surgeon came to check on me she couldn't believe how well I was doing and when I told her how much I'd walked, she said that is why you are doing so well.

Obviously every body is different and recovers differently but this is my 6th surgery and the one thing I have learned is walk walk walk!

Good healing to everyone,

i was sleeved on the 10th of Sept. I've had a very tough recovery that led to a extended hospital stay and continued weakness and pain. I had extreme nausea and vomiting along with swelling at suture lines in stomach and needed oxygen and low blood pressures for days :( I begged to go home from hospital on day 8 when I started to feel better. Now it's a battle to get my needed fluids and Protein in each day. I'm on full fluids diet and trying to sip Water all day long. As for food, I'm adding Protein to Protein shakes and Soup broths so I can get enough protein in each day. I did try some sugar-free vanilla pudding 2 days ago but had some pressure and pain after 2 spoonfuls so I stopped. I'm actually surprised that I do have hunger and I thought we were not going to have hunger after the surgery. I'm hoping the hunger is just related to needing to drink more fluids or waiting for my acid medicine to start working. Being positive is my number one goal, healing is my second. I figure I've been overweight for approx. 21 years so all this won't be cured in a week. Best of luck to all my fellow sleeve buddies . . .

I was sleeved on the 10th also. I was only supposed to be in the hospital over night but begged to stay another day, thankfully my doctor agreed I wasn't ready to go home. Day of surgery was rough, especially after, I was up and walking 20 minutes after being put in my room. I walked the halls at least every hour. The gas pain was awful, a pain I hope to never experience again. I kept down everything, only time I felt ill was after the leak test. The nurses where friendly and helpful. I received alot of pain medicine, not due to the incisions but due to the gas pain. I was able to have ice and Water after my surgery before my leak test, which I will be ever greatful for. I think I've done well in the week after surgery. I've taken lots of pain medicine though. I'm not on full liquids, I walk 5 times or more a day on the treadmill, and have managed to lose 15lbs in the week. Even though I had all the pain, this surgery was worth it, I will always be thankful to Dr Weiss for everything. This has changed my life for the better.

I was sleeved on Friday the 18th.

Yes the gas pain IS THE WORST. when you read other post and they

say it is rough...boy is it!!! but today is better... today is day 3...as they say.. walk and sip ..walk and slip you either need to be walking or sipping to get that gas pushed threw.

I will say.... it also helps when you have a great company like Bariatric Pal. Dr. ALtimario is the BEST CHOICE anyone can make for there dr. All the staff is WONDERFUL with this company they give you very attintive service.

Well a week and a half post surgery.

I am feeling much better but I am dehydrated as I am only taking about 1000mls of Fluid and food in total (food is obviously still liquids at this stage anyway)

All of my dressings are off and they are so much smaller than I was thinking - they will be barely visible in a few months.

Now my major concern is burping - I am burping like a monster LOL every single spoonful

It is so embarrassing but I have noticed a difference today at least - I will hate it if I cannot eat without this happening. A huge change though in a week and I am feeling glad to have done this. Last week I was soo unsure it was the right thing to do. Looking forward though now and I have a lot of weight to lose so I will just focus on the positives.

I was sleeved on the 8th of September. I had an awful recovery time

I'm still dealing with heavy gas and bloating. Had hernia repair at the same time. Each day gets better.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
