Liquid diet HELLLLL

Recommended Posts

Ok. So today was my first dy of the liquid diet. I HATE IT!!!! I have drank the Boost Breeze, eaten some jell-o with Bene Protein in it and I think I am about to float away! My kids cooked pizza for themselves tonight and I am setting in my bedroon sipping on my Boost Breeze fruit drink. Whoopppeeee. LOL I am sorry I know most everyone has to go through this I just had to rant a few minutes.

I have a question though. My doc requires a 2 week pre op of Clear Liquids and then 2 weeks post op clear liquids. Has anyone else had this long and is it 'easier' after surgery or are we still 'starving'. I have told myself all day that I only have 13 more days on this crappy liquids before surgery and then my hope is that it is not as bad after. I know there is no restriction but maybe the mind set?

Just looking for feedback from other bandsters. Can't wait!! I am almost there! I can not believe it.

I had 10 days of liquid before surgery and 5 days after. It was the hardest thing I have every done in my life. That was one diet I had never tried. Slim fast or Medifast or whatever they are called.

Am I ever glad I suffered .

Hi,

I can not tolerate any artificial sweeteners and had Optifast 5 weeks before surgery and then liquids 2 weeks after. Lots of popcicles, Jello of every color for variety, Water, broth, more Water, juice, Protein shakes. I myself did not feel hungry after my lapband for the first week. It will all be worth it!

I had a very restricted liquid diet for seven days prior to surgery. I had to have less than 50 grams of carbs and more than 70 grams of Protein a day. Never knew that carbs were in so many things.

After surgery, I had two weeks of liquids. Honestly, I just got used to it. I think it made me fuller drinking Water and Crystal Light so much. It will get easier. Just don't focus on it so much. I think your stomach actually shrinks too so you don't get as hungry. I start mushies today and was sort of excited but actually...I'm still not hungry yet.

The other benefit is that most people lose a lot of their Water weight during this phase and that's a good feeling.

How much liquid are you supposed to drink daily?

64 oz. of Water, 8 oz. Tomato juice, 8 oz orange juice, and 30 grams of Protein either by powder mixed in with something or a boost breeze. I don't know how they expect us to get all of this in.:cry I didn't even come close yesterday.

I had my surgery on Thursday and by Monday, I was starving. I am on two weeks of liquids now and honestly, I don't think I can make it. I was nauseous most of the day from being so hungry. I hope my doctor lets me move to soft foods early.

I start my liquids on the 23rd and I have already told DH to plan on frozen dinners for two weeks and not to even think about eating out. It is strange to me that the preop/postop plans differ so much. I have to have 4 slim fasts a day for two weeks only that and Water. After however, my doc. said only what I can get through a straw for the first two weeks. He also said that a lot of people think clear liquids but that is a misunderstanding, I know all docs are different but you may check on that to be sure that is what he wants. He even told me I coud have Soup at hand if it was like a Tomato Soup. For me that will be much easier than the preop slim fast.

Okay, you wrote that you are supposed to be drinking CLEAR liquids. THAT would suck. But the above isn't clear liquids, it's full liquids. Full liquids is doable, clears for a month would be horrible.

The above doesn't sound bad. I get that much Fluid in daily. Not a biggie. You just have to drink all day long.

Something to verify with your doc is that most docs want you getting a TOTAL of 64oz of Fluid in daily. After drinking the juices and Protein drinks then finish off the remaining 64oz with Water. But your doc may mean 64oz water in addition to the rest of the liquids. But if you can't get it in throughout the day then at least you know you will survive the month of liquids. :)

You can do this, there is a trick to it. Cut out ALL sugar and keep carbs below 20gms daily. Keep your Protein to an adequate level and you really won't be hungry. You'll have tons and tons of head hunger but you won't have stomach hunger. Head hunger + stomach hunger = failure, but if you get rid of the stomach hunger you CAN do this. Even a little sugar will ruin this and you'll be so hungry you'll want to chew on your right arm the way a dog chews on a squeaky toy. But cut out sugar and carbs and this is totally doable.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
