GasX and Post-Op Gas

I have heard lots and lots and lots of people say GasX strips helped with the body gas that's pumped into us during surgery, but when I asked the PA about it at my final pre-op appt., he said GasX shouldn't have any effect because the gas is in the body cavity, not the GI tract. According to him, walking is the only real way to deal with the gas, otherwise they would prescribe anti-gas medications.

I have no experience to base any of this on, but what are your thoughts?

How exactly does the gas in the body cavity "work its way out?" It must have to get into the GI tract somehow? It's killing me, it helps if I can understand it better

My doc said it works it's way into the cells somehow and then into the blood stream. Then you breath out carbon dioxide.

I am nine weeks post op. I burped far more than I farted. They are overjoyed when you fart. It's crazy how happy they get. The reason? It means everything is in working order. Don't fear gas. Let your body do it's thing.

@@gpmed yes, it is weeks before you can add fiber. Once you can, do. One friend of mine told me he was so constipated that it was like giving birth and it came with a lot of blood. It scared him into buying high fiber, low sugar bars. He suggests two a day.

If it happens again I'll try some fiber! Actually having the opposite problem today. Called the clinic nurse and she thinks I had dumping syndrome this morning. One week post-op we are allowed puréed and thicker things like yogurt. Had one-fourth cup nonfat Greek yogurt with Splenda. Ate it over the course of a half hour. She said I still could have overfilled my pouch or the Splenda gave me dumping. It's amazing how delicate our systems become! Back to just liquids for a couple days.
