Looking for those who had sleeve in August 2015

Recommended Posts

I had mine done on August 7. Everything seems to be going well. I'm on regular foods now but not in any kind of hurry to go back to my pre-sleeve habits. I had the lap-band from May, 2011 to December, 2014 with several painful experiences with food getting stuck. I don't want any repeats! Since my heaviest pre-surgery, I've lost 36 pounds. Two weeks of that was my pre-op diet. But a lose is a lose!

I had surgery on the 18th of August and I have lost 35 lbs including the pre op diet. I'm on puréed food but I feel like I can eat other food too, but I'm scared to try. Is it normal to try more food 3 weeks out?

Hi, I was sleeved on 26 August . I am down 18 lbs. I am on a puréed diet but have had some pineapple today though I didn't swallow the pulp. Mostly Soups and porridge and yogurt and I even tried a scramble egg, more like a spoon full. Gas is giving me pains but I am trying to walk as much as I can which is twice a day around my park. Say 45 mins of walking.

Sleeves 8/31, so just a few days behind you.

Had a smooth recovery so far. Very little pain, no nausea or vomiting. My surgeon's plan allows for soft Protein (cottage cheese, eggs, ground meat, etc) starting on day three. So far I have tolerated everything, and I'm so glad I'm not limited to liquids.

Having trouble getting all of my liquids in, but REALLY trying. Also struggling getting all of my Protein in. It's a work in progress. Eating about 400 cals/day (no idea what is average for this stage), but feeling really good as long as I take it easy and don't exert myself too much.

Down 21 pounds in 3 weeks (12 pre-op, 9 post-op). I'm 5'3, started at 245, and I am 32.

That's all about me... How are you doing??

I was sleeved on 19th of August so I'm 3 weeks out. I'm actually doing surprisingly well, I don't really feel any kind of pain or rarely feel discomfort when I eat (I'm in puree phase but I'm also allowed to have certain soft foods).

Before the op I lost 22 lbs.

Since my surgery I lost 19 lbs.

I'm seeing my doctor in 2 weeks and I hope he will clear me for some basic physical activity. I really want to get back on my bike.

ttdish, sounds like you are doing very well! The first day or two was rough for me, just very nausous! I am doing much better now. I am down 20 lbs, 9 before surgery 11 after. Sept 10 will be 2 weeks for me! I am stuggling with the chewable multi Vitamins, and Calcium. I come close to gettin my protein, but just not there yet. And never get enough liquids in... hanging in there and loving the changes!!

August 11th so today is day 30 and I can transition from pureed foods to soft foods. Eating 80 grams of Protein a day and about 800 calories right now. Lost 22 pounds pre-op but only 13 in the 30 days of post-op. No idea why. I've been following the program and feeling really good. Just stuck at this weight for eight days now. Frustration.

I've been eating mostly yogurt and Protein shakes, some eggs, some pureed meat with light mayo, a little fruit with no skins and some cooked carrots. Not sure what to start up on next for the "soft food" phase. Add more vegetables I suppose. I can handle more than the 3 ounces I'm supposed to have (unfortunately) but haven't been abusing that.

Oh well, time will tell.

I had my surgery on 8/25. I've done well, no problems. I'm on a puréed diet now. I made a white bean chicken chili in the crock pot today and puréed that. I can have 1/2 cup. It was very good. I can feel my restriction during my half hour it takes to eat. I got the recipe from one of my coworkers who also had a sleeve done. 1/2 cup is 13.7 G Protein. I lost 10# on my prep liquid dirt and 12 post op so far. I don't have much energy yet.

My sleeve was 8/3. I had a pretty good recovery, except for the day of surgery, just could not wake up. Only took 1 dose of narcotic when I got home, no nausea, until recently. Saw surgeon today, 2nd time, and he said yes my weight loss is a little slow, but that's OK, slow and steady is best. Said he felt I was somewhat dehydrated and that is causing the nausea, so drink 1 liter of pedialyte for 6 days straight. I am getting in my Protein, but having a hard time fitting in 64 oz of fluids, so he is probably right. I am tolerating the foods, even some steak, trying to stick to 4oz of food, each meal, but I do get hungry. Weight loss is 16 lbs before surgery on pre-op, and only 13lbs since surgery. Nice to read about everyone.

Hi

Had my surgery August 25. Cannot get my fluids down, started puree things but not much. I have sharp pains in my sternum ad the worst heart and throat burn, Its like something is stuck down my throat. Have tried tons of ant acids, becoming very weak. Had sureg ery in Tijuana, and emailed Doctor. She says I need IV, my family doctor has no freaking idea and it will be months to see a bariatric doctor. I cannot get liquids in....or Protein in, getting worried.

lealor,

Did your doc put you on Prilosec or anything like that? If he/she didn't give you a prescription you can buy it over the counter.

Hope you feel better soon!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
