Hello,

Has anyone ever dumped on fish? This was my third dumping experience, so I know it was dumping and it was not fun. The first two I narrowed down to sugar, so this one blew my mind because I have been so conscious of reading labels, etc. That day I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, 1/2C Cottage cheese for a snack, 1/2C Potato Soup for lunch and then the Fish for dinner. I am not too fond of fish to begin with, so this was the first time I have eaten it and it happened immediately after I had just two bites.

Thoughts?

I would think the Soup would have done it before the fish unless it was real greasy.

Dumping is only caused by sugar or high fat foods. Unless your fish was cooked with one of these two things you did not dump. Not all vomiting is dumping. Sometimes things don't agree with your pouch.

What kind of fish? How was it prepared? How much of it did you eat?

As @@Crosby says, it sounds more like your pouch had a bad reaction to something about the fish. Dumping would normally also include feelings of lightheadedness, fatigue, abdominal pain, sweating, or something like that.

That was the third time I had ate that Soup because we all know how long one single can lasts :-), so I ruled out the soup.

It was a Gorton's lemon pepper grilled fillet, that was baked and I ate two bites before the symptoms began. I did not even look at the fat content because it only had about 80 calories, so I would assume the fat was very low. I had immediate diarrhea and then vomited within the hour. I felt the exact same as the two times I dumped with sugar.

It could have been the seasoning on the fish that made you sick.

The stats on the fish you ate was (for 1 filet):

Calories: 90

Fat: 3g (1g sat. fat, 1g poly. fat, 1g mono. fat)

Cholesterol: 50mg

Sodium: 310mg

Carbs: 0g

Protein: 15g

So from a nutritional perspective, looks o.k. (does have sat. fat, but only 1g). Maybe as @@ANewMe83 says it was the seasoning, or maybe you are just having a bad reaction to fish. Unsure.

Sorry no better answer.

I don't usually dump (I was sleeved) but I found the Gorton's seasoned baked fish to be very "greasy". I have found post-sleeve that I am more affected by higher fat foods than before. Have you tried plain fish with maybe a spritz of olive oil?

Plain tuna from the can makes me dump. It's weird, but my pouch hates it. Makes me super sick

I threw up the first time I ate Gortons tilapia. However, I think I ate too much of it and that made it get stuck. Scallops and shrimp work much better for me now.

All of these posts make me worried about what to eat and not to eat . I guess you wing it? Lol especially when she was trying to pick a healthy choice like fish...and then the result is dumping? Hmmm

Well, everybody is different, of course. I'm a month out from my surgery, and I've done fine so far with what I've eaten. I'm still in the soft veggies, soft fruit, baked/broiled fish stage, though. Everything I've tried so far has agreed with me. The only issue I had once last week was probably me eating a bit too much, and I ended up vomiting a little. I won't do that again.

I'm still 10 days away from being able to try different types of food so I'm hoping my winning streak continues.

I've "frothed" on canned tuna, and today, I tried baked tilapia. Today's episode was much worse. I have to vomit/spit up the frothy phelgm almost 5 times. I didn't eat fast, so I'm thinking it must have been the texture. I made sure to chew at least 30 times. I guess I must have pushed it a bit. I'm 6 weeks out on Thursday. My team has me on pureed until 4-6 weeks.

According to the "Big book on Gastric Bypass" yes fish can make you dump. I am so sorry to hear this for you OP. I am only 10 days out and LOVE fish I can't imagine not being able to eat it. I also now am so scared when I get to the soft food stage to try it. I can have pureed tuna I sure hope I can tolerate tuna. I think I will start with a tablespoon and see what happens.....

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
