Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

Recommended Posts

5 weeks post op and I'm down 30lbs. I went to buy a new pair of jeans yesterday and I'm down 2 pant sizes, it feels great because even if I don't see my weight loss the proof is in my clothing. This journey is far from over and far from easy. I'm taking it day by day, hour by hour, and really learning how to put what I need first. The Protein and Water intake is a pain in the ass but it makes me take better care of myself.

Weird side note, before surgery I disliked coffee. Now I drink one every morning. I take a premade Premier Protein vanilla shake add a teaspoon of instant coffee and some ice. The vanilla is sweet enough that you don't have to add anything else, but for flavor I recommend adding sugar-free syrups.< /p>

@@60&goin4it thank you for the recipe. I was actually looking for a different one. Also do you have a smaller version? I am the only one in my house that eats chili and I think that recipe would be too much. My parents are coming up today and I think I will get them to make me some chili and freeze some and let them take the rest home. I may get them to make some egg salad and vegetable Soup without corn. I would like to try that Ricotta Bake as well.

@@s0rda I went back over all the posts and I saw where you posted something about Bariatric Advantage Vitamins 250 and 500. The flavors interested me but I could not figure out what 250 and 500 meant. I went to the Bariatric Advantage website and could not figure it out there either. Can you provide a link to the Bariatric Advantage website for these products? Thanks.

@@edie091371 Hope hubby is still doing great! Did I see where you posted that your son had a Nutrionist appointment? Does that mean he is thinking about Bariatric surgery as well?

I have noticed a new symptom in the last few days. I now have a tremor in my fingers. My son came to visit last night and he wanted to watch me play a game on the computer. I started playing and I have to hold keys down for a while at times. While holding the keys down the tremors got much much worse where I almost couldn't play. I will bring this up to the doctor Tuesday but I have to say this scares me.

It has been almost 6 weeks since my initial surgery and I toss and turn all night long. If I get on my side, either side, my internal parts still bother me or my stomach starts feeling queasy.

@@395Ron sorry I don't have a smaller version, but I seem to be able to tolerate my regular homemade chili with just leaner meat. Your mom & dad or wife may have one that would work fine! Chili & the ricotta bake is what I eat a lot of. I always freeze my leftover chili since it freezes so well. I even freeze my leftover marinara sauce for the ricotta bake since there will be extra. If you have any small containers you could put a bunch of 1or 2 serving in the freezer that would thaw quickly!!

Your weight loss is great!!! How is your energy level? I wonder if the tremor is just fatigue & from everything you have been through! My son-in- law was in a bad motorcycle accident in Arlington Texas 1 1/2 years ago. Had to airvac him to hospital where he aspirated into his lungs & head trauma. Was there for 6 weeks then physical therapy for 2. Doing great now!!! Prayers are answered & we are all praying that you will come back from this set back stronger & healthier than before!! Sending you & your wife hugs & remember as you always said "You got this"!!!!

I am taking benefiber. I just started regularly so we shall see if it helps. I have been going but it is never enough and difficult. I know TMI. This process is interesting. I just keep thinking hopefully I feel almost like myself soon. I go back to work tomorrow. I must admit I am not looking forward to it. I ans still dealing with pain if I bend down or stretch. Also when I am tired I feel it more.

That's good news! Thank you. I know it gets better with each passing day. I guess you see some people just rebound like they never had surgery lol. I am not in that boat. I had a long day yesterday and so much wAlking I was wiped out! Come on week 4! I guess getting back into a routine is not a bad thing. Getting up at 4 AM is gonna be tough!!!

Hello Ron as far as the Vitamins go there are 2 versions you can buy one has 250mg and you have to eat 2 chews which look like starbursts and have my 2 favorite flavors raspberry and lemon. The 500mg you only take once a day I think the best flavor for those is the orange. I will look for the online information and post it. I hope this clears up a little of the confusion that is me lol

250 and 500 refers to mg of Calcium. I take these and they are super yummy. I also like the Bariatric Advantage advanced multi EA. They are chewable.

So glad that you're better!

I posted a screenshot of Bariatric Advantage's order form I hope that helps @@395Ron

I take their Vitamins I enjoy the calcium chews and I have the multi Vitamin in pill form the only downside for me is on an empty stomach they make me nauseous. I've tried the chewable multi Vitamin from them it was chalky but I didn't get nauseous.

I still haven't gotten sick or anything. Sugar doesn't bother me. .neither does alcohol sugar. Will be careful though still avoiding sugary foods so it doesn't effect my weight loss.

I was approved for Insure Nutrition shakes through insurance. .then found out they scam insurance companies by charging $5000 a month for Protein Shakes and supplements. Before my order was processed I called them to cancel it. They said ok it's canceled. .then the next day I checked my insurance and saw they processed it even though they said they canceled it. Insure Nutrition is a scam.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
