At what rate should I expect to lose?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Background info:

I started at 200lbs and 34 bmi. Fat mass of 43%. I'm a female.

My sleeve was done on August 7th. I have lost 10lbs since. I'm at 190 and measure 5"4. I was dropping about 2 pounds a day until Wednesday but as expected that stopped. And I've been stalled for 3 days.

My question is how much should I expect to lose at each stage. And at what rate? I've read a lot of posts but most of them is people who's starting weight was higher so they lose more quicker. Is there anyone who started off with similar stats as mine who could guide me?

The mistake you made was using the word "expect". Rate of loss is both completely individual and almost entirely out of your control. Your body is gonna do what is going to do. All *you* can do is stick to the plan and the scale will trend downward.

I made the mistake early on of comparing myself to others and it caused me nothing but frustration and misery. I can't even count the number of times I complained about being a slow loser.

But you know what? I'm coming up on 12 months out, I'm less than 4 pounds from goal, and I wouldn't change a thing. I realize now that the rate of loss doesn't matter one bit as long as you are losing. If you follow your plan, get in your Water and Protein, and get in some exercise, you WILL lose the weight. And as I often say on these forums, 10 years from now when you are living your happy, healthy life, what will it matter if it took you 6 months or 16 months to get to your goal?

Another great post Jamie!

Just as you said... A year or two from now ... This won't have a space in your head.

Focus on the long run.. Do your program and have faith... It does work for most of us !!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
