Several people have said the same thing...."you don't need the surgery" yes I do! I weight 240 lbs and I'm 5'4 I am morbidly obese. I've decided not to be so forthcoming with people, to much negativity.

Know the feeling! I'm 5'3" 209. But have several co morbities and 5 failed back surgeries. So I need to lose this extra weight I've gained past 8 yes because of all that to help me walk better. All my tests are finished, one more nut appt on Sept 9th. Get my date that day. Been a long 6 months! All worth the wait!

It really helps to just make the decision and tell people after and say, 'Well, I wasn't asking for an opinion, I already made up my mind.' If you're resolute on doing this, nothing will change your mind. Don't let anyone else even be a factor on your journey.

I think it comes down to most people feeling or thinking that surgery for weight loss isn't needed you just have to eat less and exercise well no kidding if it were that simple no one would be overweight right? It's an addiction a habit a comfort much like alcohol and drug use to which some become addicted well geez if only they would stop drinking or drugging right so simple that's why rehab exists right? Addiction changes your chemistry like alcohol and drugs food is always there a temptation I think of this as a sort of rehab for us a chance to reset and move forward after all this will help us lose weight but if u eat bad food all the time u will be right back where u started

I know how you feel which is why I've only told 3 people. Today when I went for my EKG the nurse asked if I've had this done before. I said no ma'am. She then asked if this was for some kind of pre op. I said yes ma'am for Dr asad. She then asked what surgery and there it was, "well youre not gonna do THAT are you?!? You're no bigger than me!" so the whole time she was asking me questions and giving me the stink eye and attitude. Lets just say I stopped calling her ma'am after five minutes of being there

Stories like this make me so mad. These are supposed to be medical "professionals".... why aren't they conducting themselves in a professional manor? You should definitely report her.

Yes when I read this I was thinking the same thing. Why does she need to know what surgery you are having anyhow? I would have said yes to the pre-op and if the additional comments came I would have said this is a private matter do you really need to know why in order to perform this EKG? If she had said yes at that point I would lied. I will be having gallbladder surgery along with the sleeve. So if I get questioned like this it is for my gallbaldder. I do not need the crap and the stress of what others deal out

Shellyd88 This is your business just as it is mine. You don't need to tell anyone. BUt i fyou have please tune them out when they give you all the stress and hassle.

As or me It is my business, my WLS and his staff and my PCP and his staff. The only person in my life I told is my roommate as he needs to be there to help me with the drive to and from the hospital.

I hate when people say that. I started at 350, how can you possibly say I didn't need it!? It's basically the 'nice' way to say you're unsupportive.

My new favorite, I've seen a few people who asked how much I've lost, and I told them and they're all 'wow I didn't realize you needed to lose that much'. Come on. Super awkward.

Grrr.. people this week. Lol

I'm too mortified to tell anyone how much I've lost except here to know that I got that big is embarrassing it's all ppl want to talk about when they see me how much have u lost what did u eat today ughhh I feel like screaming can't we talk about something else? I got so sick of it I don't answer I say a lot and change the subject I'm almost 6 months post op sleeve and I'm 6'1 so luckily not too many ppl say nasty things to me or negative things about surgery if they do I just say when I want your opinion I'll ask for it and I didn't ask... that usually gets them quiet lol I do ignore a lot of crap I've had to my whole life being so tall for a girl a got a lot of shit lol so I have a pretty thick skin I think really that people cannot possibly understand something that they haven't experienced

They used to say those comments to me but now that they see the results and how much energy I have they won't to know all about it! I did tell people. I work at a hospital so I saved them the trouble of gossiping about me. Lol. Down a total of 97lbs, 67 lbs. since surgery on 2/18.

*want to know

@@glitterpockets - you are so much nicer than me - attitude and stinkeye would have been the "start" button.

@@Mistie - nice response :P sounds like something that would've flew out of my mouth.

I am SO over that comment and the one that usually follows along the lines of "you cant eat real food can you?"

@@Shellbell619, I am so sorry that this ignorant nurse had to rain on your parade! You handled the situation a lot better because I would have told her "if diet and exercise were so easy, then why are you still overweight?" I don't get the surgery until December, but I feel sorry for anyone that has anything rude to say to me because I have a smart mouth and I will respond accordingly....lol

This is why it is no body's business!!!I see a lot of overweight people in the medical profession. In doctors offices especially.I keep it very low, eyes and professional.I am not asking for the opinion of the staff...could care less. Also a lot of insecure women love it when other women are in the same overweight condition as they are.Insecurity.Do your thing!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
