Gall bladder after sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm just over 5 months out, and down 52lbs from 229 to 177.

I've been in pain from gallstones and need it taken out on 22nd august, a week short of my 6 month surgiversary. This is the only problem I've had from the sleeve, everything else has gone smoothly.

Just wondering what other peoples experiences are of gallbladder removal?

I was just sleeved yesterday and also was supposed to have my hiatal hernia and gallbladder removed. They were unable to remove my gallbladder because my liver was still a little enlarged so the doctor said I would likely have it out in 3-6 months. I wanted it removed at the same time as everything else because it seems so common that WLS patients have to have it removed in the future anyways. I know a hand full of people who have had various type of WLS and all of them have had to have their gallbladder removed. It appears it is not uncommon at all.

Good luck with your surgery!

I had my gallbladder removed 9 months after my VSG. It was super easy. Had surgery on a Friday, went for a mani/pedi on Saturday and was back to work on Tuesday!!

I had mine three months before my sleeve. It was almost nothing. Really easy. It just took my intestines a few months to get used to the liver continually dripping bile instead of the gall bladder releasing bile after eating.

This happened to me as well! I had gastric bypass feb 19 and on June 25 I had to have my gallbladder removed. It was sucky because unlike the bypass... This was unplanned. I had no time to prepare. But I had the surgery on Thursday went home on Friday and that Sunday I was still able to throw my daughters bday party... You couldn't even tell I had surgery days before!! Apparently gallbladder removal is common in bariatric surgery patients. My room mate was about my age and was having the same surgery and she had the sleeve done last year. Good luck!! This is a cake walk!

Almost 10 months after sleeve, I had my gallbladder out. Much better - not the pain and the like problems.

I haven't had to have mine removed yet but my gallbladder sent me to the ER about a week ago because it is "sludgy". If it continues to give me trouble, mine may have to come out. :(

That surgery was easier than the sleeve. It was the anesthesia that threw me for loops and left me in the hospital. I had them say they never had someone come out like that. I have anesthesia problems, so if you don't, piece of cake.

@@lexiemustang - it was such an easy surgery. My surgery was at 8:00 am and I left the hospital at 12:30 the same day. You will feel SO much better after if you actually have to have it removed. Good luck!

One of the joys of obesity! I had mine removed 3 years prior.

I had my Gallbladder removed before my sleeve surgery....but after I lost 90 lbs on my own. I also had another procedure done the day before my gallbladder was removed...I had gallstones blocking my Bile Duct...and those had to be removed first. The surgery was a piece of cake...only spent two nights in the hospital...only because of the 2 procedures.

The pain before removal...was unbearable! I didn't go anywhere without my Motrin. My magic number was 1600mg.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
