A little off 2 week diet pre-surgery.....

Recommended Posts

I am worried because my dietician told me to drink liquids 2 weeks prior to surgery. Well, my gastric sleeve is scheduled for Tuesday and I slipped a little bit and ate solid foods due to extreme craving during that time of the month. I apologize if this is too much info but I am really worried. Should I ask my surgeon to reschedule?

I'm actually curious to find out what you do, if you tell the surgeon or not. I'm scheduled for my gastric bypass on Thursday and also "cheated" on my liquid diet. Honestly, the only things I ate were 2 slices of tomatoes, and a few bites of grilled chicken breast (no skin and only a little salt and garlic). I've heard people (in my group meetings) substituting the shakes for eggs (I think it was one whole egg and 2 egg whites) or a can of tuna. Keep me updated please and good luck! I can't imagine going through this diet and having to do it again.

I was told to do clears and a Protein shake 2 daily..they told me it was because when we eat, our liver is bigger and it needs to be moved during surgery..no food=smaller liver.

..I'm not a doctor, so I would ask your physician team but I am told that's the main reason of the liquid diet before surgery. Best wishes!!

I haven't had surgery yet, but I'd encourage you to tell the doc. The rules and guidelines they set up are to keep you safe during and after surgery. Plus, I don't know about you, but my hiding food or lying about it is one of the things that got me here. I know I have to be ruthlessly honest with myself and others, particularly my docs, if this is going to work long term.

I slipped up a couple of times during my 2 weeks pre-op. The day before I had buffalo wings and cheese fries lol, and I was fine. Everything went perfect with my surgery. I had mine on 6/11/2015.

My advice would be to follow directions like don't eat or drink after midnight, or any directions with medicines. Make sure you are packed and just relax, everything will be great! You will love your new life and the changes in your body. Try to walk every time you can after surgery :).

I start my two weeks of liquid tomorrow, I am so nervous! Does anyone know how to cope with this easier or what they liked to drink?

I ate a lot of sugar free Jello, even though under ordinary circumstances I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. But it was the only "solid" food i could eat for two weeks, so i ate it - and sometimes lots of it - almost every night.

I am 12 days from my surgery for gastric bypass and my nutritionist gave me a 1000 calorie balanced whole foods diet with high Protein and low carbs. I chose to have a Protein Shake with lunch but have a cup of green Beans, 1/3 c quinoa, and 3 oz of grapes. I have 5 small meals a day and I don't have to do a liquid diet until the day before surgery. I've already lost 7 lbs in 4 days doing this. And I'm not hungry. I think the big issue is getting in your protein and cutting out fat, carbs, and sugar. Each doctor is different though.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
