Roll call all who had surgery JUNE 2015

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 6/20 and I have lost a total of 32 pounds so far, 24 since surgery. I have been in a stall for 2 1/2 weeks but I am getting in about 60-65g of Protein per day and about 60 oz of Water so I am going to continue to focus on getting everything in and I'm sure I will move past my stall soon.

After reading everyone's progress here it looks like I am on track so I feel much better. I had my 1 month follow up a couple of days ago and my doctors seem pleased with my progress so I'm going to keep moving along.

My plan afterc8cweeks allows wheatctoast and wheat bread products like tortillas. In moderation. I think that's healthy. Protein should be the main food but you need carbs especially if you work out. Right now I only eat 50 to 70 grams of carbs per day and don't eat bread but eventually I don't think a little wheat toast will kill you. I am not fat because I ate wheat bread and quinoa. I am fat because ate white flour and sugar.

June 30th here. I thought I was down 20-21 lbs as of Tuesday but I weighed myself this morning and I am up 2lbs. That sounds impossible right? I've been eating 600-700 per day. Averaging 60gms of protein…. I have a few more weeks before I can do high impact expertise but I can do everything else starting now.

I am right there with you - sleeved the same day, down 22 pounds including preop, now kind of stalled. I think we have to be patient and trust the process.

I was sleeved on June 18th. Have lost 40 pounds since the start of my pre-op diet. I had a bitter taste of the dreaded stall between weeks 3 and 4 when I lost nothing for 6 days! Ugghh! Been losing steadily since...will be 6 weeks on 7/30.

I can eat most everthing now except salads and steak. My nurse practitioner said those will be the last things added. A few things I have eaten don't want to sit well such as green olives and pickles. Drat! I love those 2 things. I eat eggs every morning for Breakfast and sometimes for supper. We raise chickens and have eggs running our of our ears! Awesome source of Protein and easily fixed in so many ways. Another thing I eat often is PB2. I have always been a Peanut Butter fan but wouldn't dare eat the real stuff any more. PB2 is a fantastic alternative. Plus, when I want to have the sweet taste

with it I use Polaner All fruit strawberry or grape...scrumptious!!! My third "go-to" meal is part-skim ricotta cheese . You can add all kinds of healthy items to it or just eat it plain. This week I have been adding 2 tablespoons of chopped avocado and that is so yummy. I don't think anything put in ricotta could be wrong. Even the Polaner All Fruit is a delicious sweet treat.

I have the PB2 but am not sure what to do with it. Any ideas?? It's not like I can put it on toast or crackers now!!

Hello Everyone!!! I was sleeved June 1st, 2015, and I am doing OK. I have definitely experienced some ups and downs, currently down... My HW was 235, SW 222, and CW 200.6, so I have lost a total of about 35lbs, 22 of which occurred post-op. I have already had a 2 week stall and I am currently in the middle of a stall (since last week). I am frustrated because I feel as if I am doing what j am supposed to: I eat between 650-750 calories per day, I limit my carbs to under 40g a day (have only gone over this about 2 times), I drink 64-100ozof Water , I always get all of my Protein in 60-80g , and I exercise 4-6 days per week ( High intensity interval training). So I just don't know what I could do to prevent stalls or speed up my loss. Honestly, I would be fine with losing slowly as long as it was more consistently. Oh well, it is what it is and I have to learn to go with the flow. I would love to hear any advice that you guys have. thanks!!!

@@rnsamantha Like you, I didn't know what to do with my PB2. Today put my usual Premier Choc shake in the blender with ice cubes and 2T PB2. Was extra good and filling. I usually just sip on my shake in the car during the 25 minute commute to work so nice change.

@@MarceMonster I too am a slow loser. I don't think I have ever seen more than a 1 pound loss (at a time) on the scale. Seeing others' losses on this thread did give me a lot of reassurance that I am doing fine. Learning patience! Same weight for 2.5 weeks. I do not believe in stall breakers because you never can tell if it is the "special treatment" or just your body ready to release more weight. Cruising to skinnyhood!

I am getting a little frustrated top and am trying to stay positive. The last 3days I have gone up in weight despite doing everything right. I am up a total of almost 3 pounds. I have tried hiding my scale but I admit I am obsessed with weighing everyday. I hope I break this stall soon. I go to surgeon next Friday for check up so I hope I am down more. I started at 281, day of surgery 277 and am,now at 253.

Things you can do with PB2 that I have tried are: PB2 with Polaner All fruit, PB2 with sliced apple, PB2 in a smoothie with banana Greek yogurt and almond milk, and PB2 on celery. Yummy!

Just cook all meats in a cockpot, they are not dry that way:)

@@Sherri1964 - if it is too dry it will often get stuck or at least it feels that way and is quite painful. Generally (with me anyway) I have to vomit to get it out because it just won't go down. If I have some sort of dip (hummus, Greek yogurt dip, etc) that seems to help it go down easier.

I was sleeved on 6/17. My HW 331, SW 294 and CW 269, so I lost post-op 25lbs and a total of 62lbs. I was in a stall for about three weeks. I saw my surgeon last week, he advised to give away my scale. He told that some people lose inches before they lose weight and for others its the opposite and not to get obsessed with the numbers. That as long as I follow the plan, I should lose weight. Obviously I haven't lost the scale yet but I'm trying to weigh myself less often. I have been walking at least 5x/week, either outside or on my treadmill.

I was cleared to start eating regular solid foods now. I trying to wean myself off of Protein shakes, to see how I can get all my Protein through food alone. I tried eggs, hambugers and deli meats without a problem. No nausea or vomiting. I'm adding tuna and lean ground turkey this week to see how those go.

Regarding the dryness of meats, for me the no drinking and eating thing becomes a problem. I'm stuck with a dry mouth for 30 minutes.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
