For those of you who are scared to have christmas festivities....cant you make it not all about food and treats? That is what we are doing in my house. I have 5 girls and so we are doing alot of christmas crafty projects and going on outings together as a family...not focusing on just food like Cookies etc. Christmas eve we are planning movie night and making lap blankets with fleece. New traditions for a new life style!

What a wonderful idea. Since I am only about a month from surgery, I have purged my kitchen of all the tempting food items and given them to my daughter. I am not into making or eating cookies but I did make chocolates in the past. I told everyone not this year! I don't want the temptation right now and frankly, no on in my circle of friends and family need it either. I have searched out some high protein/low carb Snacks though as I know there needs to be food but just want to make sure there is something festive that I can eat. Since it is so close to Christmas now, I will incorporate your idea

for next year for sure. Thanks.

Hello Aussie girl here... I am booked for the 9th February.. I am a bit worried.. I have a very good surgeon recommended by my encrinologist. Did anyone go for the psych evaluation? My therapist told me to avoid being with my parents over Christmas because they are food obsessed... I am very conflicted on what to do... What do I tell them? You can't come because you both are obsessed with food? Its a bit Bah humbug doesn't it?

My psych evaluation was long but fine! I think you should still spend time with family over the holidays, just know your limits

I totally know what you mean. My family is this way as well. So, I am on a pre-op Atkins right now and have planned foods that I CAN have and share. They are all high protein/low carb and I know everyone will enjoy them. I like what Juno5 posted about making the holidays about something other than food. Make new traditions. If everyone is coming to your house, make only foods that you CAN eat. If the family is bringing foods, remind them that you are choosing to start living a healthier lifestyle and you simply cannot have (insert food item). Christmas is or should not be about the food! I made a conscious decision to NOT make any of the goodies that I would normally have made.

As for the psych eval - My insurance does not cover bariatric surgery so I am self pay and that evaluation is not required by my surgeon. I did discuss this with my Nurse Practitioner who has also had bariatric surgery. I went over what my goals and thoughts are and she said basically that I had thought this through well and that she believes I will be very successful.

I am scheduled for a sleeve on January 19, 2016

So, with all that in mind, have a very Merry Christmas.

Good luck everyone getting sleeved this week. I go in for my nutritional appointment and final consent/lab work Thursday. Surgery is set for 12/28 @ University of Penn.

How is everyone newly sleeved feeling?

I'm starting to pack! Wednesday 12/16 I'm first up on the surgery roster. I am going to a center of excellence, and will there overnight.

This should be different than past hospital stays, but I'm thinking in a good way. Less of that other stuff I don't really need, and more of this stuff (I can focus more on the sleeve recovery). Heck, they don't even have a TV :) but I find that is perfect. I figure I'll be walking, sipping, or sleeping.

I have faith in God, in the surgeon, myself, my family support, and the timing of this. It's not going to be easy, but it will be worth it - I have no doubt.

So very happy for you both! I will be reporting back in on the afternoon of 12/28. I requested the first surgery and mine will be 1.5 hours due to my hiatal hernia repair. So I know I will have the shoulder pain from the gas. I already have Gas-x strips ready!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
