  1. What is YOUR health worth? I started at 5'1" and 267. People said I could do it on my own as well and told me all the "reasons" not to have WLS. Well, I ignored them all and have lost 95 pounds since January 2016. I am off BP meds and cholestral meds. I was already taking Vitamins and minerals (D3/Calcium) so it was not an issue to increase them to the place my new body needed. I have more energy and vigor. I am more active. I am looking forward to another 25-35 pound loss in the near future. I have not experienced any of the issues your nurse mentioned in your post. I do get a bit gassy just before I know I need to have a BM (about 1X per week) but that is totally manageable!! I have had nothing but great compliments about my weight loss and would do this again in a heartbeat. In fact, wish I had done it when I was 30 instead of waiting until I was 63. Not saying my life would have been better in general but I would have been healthier and I think not have some of the health issues I have now - all due to being overweight for so many years. You go girl and be a shining example of what good health is about. This is not about looking good in a bikini but looking good health wise.
  2. I am 4 weeks post op. Down a total of 47 pounds: 19 post op and the rest pre op. I had a vertical sleeve.

  5. I understand your dilemma with the protein drinks. Cannot tell you how much money I have wasted trying to find some I can stand! So what I do is this: I add stuff to mine to make them more palatable such as, a teaspoon of sugar free instant jello cheesecake pudding mix and ice (blended); instant decaf coffee crystals, a teaspoon of sugar free instant jello fudge pudding mix, a couple of ice cubes blended (mocha frappe!). If you can have fruit, frozen cherries or blueberries blended in tastes good. I am using the Premiere shakes but they are so thick that I cannot drink them straight! Haven't found a powder that I can stand.

  7. If you like cilantro, try steeping it in your chicken broth, then strain! Gives it a different flavor with no extra calories or carbs,

  17. Thanks for the encouragement. I have had major surgeries before and cannot imagine this being any worse! So, I am trying to give myself pep talks and write in my journal a lot.

  24. Ok people, I am 8 days from being sleeved. I am starting to get real nervous! I so want this tool to help me lose weight. By the same token, I am nervous about getting surgery! I have has surgeries before so I know there is always a risk but I have been following my doctor's requirements very closely. I have lost 20 pounds since my surgery was scheduled and still have 8 days. I stopped smoking 12 days ago - YAY!!! I think I am doing well but... I read all sorts of blogs - this one as well as 3-4 others. Everyone says pretty much the same thing - everything goes just fine, they feel OK afterwards and are up walking. I don't know why I am getting a case of the nerves at this point. There, I have vented a little. Looking forward to this really I am.

  28. So sorry to hear this. Did the medical professionals tell you why?
  29. I am being sleeved on 1/19. I am currently on pre-op liquid diet and haven't "gone" in 3 days. Bothers me some but I am not uncomfortable. Think I will get some miralax or something to help clean me out good! Also, even though I am just drinking liquids and eating steamed veggies as approved, I am not losing any weight. Possibly because I need to eliminate?
  30. Ah - you will do well. Everyone who has had the surgery is so encouraging. I am 12 days from surgery yet. Getting a lot of questions written down. They are all for After WLS!! I am sure my bariatric center has print outs but I want to make sure I get all of them answered. None are really critical but things I have picked up from several different blogs I am following.
  31. Interesting where do I get this broth from? I bought it at a local grocery store in Olympia WA. Just checked online and it is EXPENSIVE to buy on Millie's website. Amazon was even worse!. It is made in Bellevue WA so it is likely that is the reason it was easy for me to find. I think you could make your own though. I tasted like a beef broth with some spices in it. But it was not spicy hot. Maybe even just at taco seasoning to beef broth for the flavor. I have some beef broth and might try that!
  32. I looked it up. Sounds good. Sounds better than sipping regular chicken broth all day. Let me know what you think I want to order some. It is good! It will be a great change up from chicken broth. Oh, not really spicy though.
  33. Today I start my 2 week pre-op of all liquids and salads/steamed veggies. I found an interesting broth the other day: Millie's Spicy Tortilla Vegetable Sipping Broth. Gonna try it today. Hope it is as good as it sounds.
