December 2015 or January 2016 sleevers ?

Recommended Posts

I'm a newbie to the forum. My sleeve surgery is scheduled for January 5. I really like my surgeon and I know this is the right thing to do.

But to be totally honest...I'm struggling with cutting out sugar and carbs in preparation for my surgery date. I know I need to start losing weight now to be ready in January, but it's as hard as it's ever been to cut back on things.

I have cut out fast food pretty much, so I guess that's a step in the right direction!

Hoping I can get some encouragement and support from others going through the same things. Thanks for being out there in cyberspace. There's no "live" support group in my area, so I'm glad to have somebody to talk to.

to.

This is my biggest struggle too. I've lost about 8 lbs during my 7 month supervised diet. We're in this together ;)

Congrats on your surgery date! You've already taken a huge step in improving your diet by cutting out the fast food. Does that include sodas?

I have a huge sweet tooth, so I hear ya. I have found I lose far better on a low carb diet that cuts out all the simple sugars and starches (you know, the good stuff like processed sugar, white flour and rice--that stuff). I resort to Splenda (my sweetener of choice, but I'm sure you have one that works for you). It's not quite the same thing, but it helps. You'll also find once you've given up on the sugar for awhile that sweet things begin to taste too sweet.

It helped me to track my food in one of the online food diaries because it allowed me to see just how many carbs/sugars/fats/proteins/calories I was eating. Read your labels. You'd be surprised by how many nonsweet food stuffs add hidden sugars.

I had 6 mos. pre-diet. The first couple I concentrated on making healthier choices. I lost weight because I mostly got rid of the simple carbs. Last month I really knuckled under and began to track what I put into my mouth and did much, much better (9 pounds in one month). Don't tell the dietitian, but that was actually only 2 1/2 weeks of serious "dieting."

I called the surgeon's office today to see if the Pulmonary Dr did indeed send out the Pulmonary Clearance on Wed like he said he would. Well guess what, he didn't! However the case manager at the surgeon's office did tell me she submitted all the paperwork she had to my insurance despite not having the Pulmonary, Cardiac and Medical Clearance yet. So we shall see what happens. I am not expected a surgery date until sometime in Jan as the surgeon is going out of the country Dec 15 until the New Year.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
