Swallowed gum and having a stomachache.

Recommended Posts

Hi. This may sound really silly. I am 4 weeks post op and just moved to pureed foods on Sunday. I am doing fine, but this afternoon I swallowed my gum by accident. Now I have a stomachache. Is that just coincidence or paranoia? I've been totally compliant with all instructions.

Whoops!

Lol'ing ... hard not to.

Yeah, I was also told not to chew gum. I imagine it'll sort itself out. But if not, you'll have an interesting story to tell at the ER.

Good luck. :)

I don't blame you for laughing. Nothing was ever said to me and I had never read anything saying no gum. I have a follow up today. I guess I'll find out. :)

I'm still pre op but we've definitely been told we shouldn't chew gum after surgery.

I'd check with your doctor just to be on the safe side. If only to ease your mind. Good luck!

I spoke to psychiatrist with my surgery team. She said the previous surgeon she worked with recommended gum to his patients the first day.post op to stimulate digestive juices. She called in the physician's assistant and he told me it was nothing to worry about and did not tell me to stop chewing gum, though I plan to anyway.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
