Starting Preop Liquid Diet Today

Not to encourage anything, but the night before my sleeve surgery I went crazy and ate a giant hunk of cheesecake! My surgery went fine.

Welcome to the hood! I would definately stick to your Dr.'s instructions. There is a good reason they do not want fecal material in your system. I would hate to think of leaving a "special gift" during surgery! Following directions and learning compliance are two tools I need to learn and accept to be successful at this new way of life. I still have a rebellious nature but finding new ways to focus these tendancies. Good luck!

No sense in starting off cheating as recommended by@ @SaintTeresa. A lack of willpower has gotten us to where we are now. I applaud you for following your doctor's orders. The ability to do the right thing now means you are more likely to succeed later.

Everyone says look what I did and nothing happened with all kinds of things in life but there are reasons why we have these rules. Someone has ignored them and paid a price, don't let it be you. I am continually amazed by people on here who say, "sure go ahead and eat it". Way to be supportive. Way to help when someone is trying to stick to their plan. There always has to be one bad apple.

I've been on my preop diet for a few days now (surgery date is July 9th) and I will admit, I didn't make it through the first day. By about 7pm all I could think about was food and I totally cheated. I realized that it was all a mental struggle for me and now I'm right back on it and doing okay.

I just want to add, I work in an operating room doing bariatric surgery 4-5 days a week. This preop diet is really important not only to jump start your weight loss but also for your safety. We really can tell when a patient didn't stick to their preop diet. There have been times when we've had a patient on the table, got the trocars in, and had to cancel the surgery because the liver was too big. We had to just close the incisions and wake up the patient. If we can't lift the liver off the stomach enough there is a real chance of injury.

It's one of the things I keep reminding myself when I have the urge to cheat. Stay strong, you really can do it!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
