hungry but can't make myself eat

Recommended Posts

I am four weeks out from being sleeved. For the past few days have been able to get in maybe 300 calories mostly fish, cheese, turkey. Have to force myself to eat even though hungry. Is this a typical experience?

That was the case for me. I would be hungry and not able to eat. The idea of putting food in my mouth and chewing it up sounded so unappealing for many months. I literally had to make myself eat. I would take a bite here, a bite there...total grazing which is not really allowed. But it was all I could do to get food in me.

Eventually things got better, little by little. Some days were fine. Others were nearly impossible to get in 500 calories. I did notice that the longer I went without eating, the harder it was to do. It is still like that now, 12 months post-op.

At four weeks out I think it sounds pretty normal. It was about 6-8 months before I started feeling "normal" about eating again. You are in the very early stages still. Many stages and changes are to come. Just settle in for the long haul. How you feel today is not how you will feel 3 months from now. Things will normalize.

Good luck!

When your car gets low on gas, do you stop and fill it even when you don't feel like it?! food is just the fuel we need to keep our bodies healthy and able to perform tasks and even to lose weight. An underfed machine will not perform at peak performance, you will not be as active and you will slow your weight reduction. If yo don't want to mess with preparing meals, at least get some Protein Shakes down. From one Iowa (Manchester) girl to another, don't let your energy level and mood dictate the care and feeding of your new body under construction!

I'm glad you said you still go through it at 12 months out. I know it's really normal early out, but recently I've been going through it at 10 months out. For the past couple weeks, food has not been appealing, and I have to force myself to eat. And I'm doing the bite here and bite there thing too. It's really annoying, and I hope it passes. Probably not a coincidence too that I've been in kind of a stall the last couple weeks. I'm just not eating enough!

Change it up a bit. Buy different flavor yogurts ( I love Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt) and Soups

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
