How do I get through my Pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

Vitamin Water Zero or G2 will help with the headaches. I was allowed all the low sodium chicken or beef broth I wanted. Can you have that in addition to Water? I found that sipping it piping hot from a mug seemed to help.

The first 3 days are HORRIBLE and then the hunger slacks off a bit.

I went to bed early during those two weeks. It was the hardest part of the entire process.

Today is the first day of the diet, I am only allowed 3 Protein shakes and steamed or raw vegetables for two weeks. My surgery is July 7th. I've already got a headache and I feel like I am starving!

Bless you honey! I am low carbing right now and I could eat a truckload of cupcakes. I mean a TRUCK. LOAD. Lol! I am going to be a handful when I get to this stage.

My husband cooked spaghetti with yeast dinner rolls for dinner - I had to leave the kitchen. I am not even kidding. I wanted to cry! I went outside & jumped in the pool and went for a swim. My only advice is distraction. And maybe try adding ice to the Protein Shakes so it feels like a milkshake??

Hang in there it gets better as you go. do you have a list of free foods? If so add those. You got this, as everyone says "eyes on the prize" and pounds lost now get you closer to your goal.

Though I was allowed anything on the pre-op diet (up to 1400 calories max) I didn't enjoy the pre-op diet. I probably went to bed early a time or two because of a headache or just overall malaise. The second week was much better and by the third week, I had it down.

Keep your long term goals in focus and dig way deep. July 7 will be here before you know it and you'll be in a better starting position for the road ahead.

@@honeyflowers it's definitely a challenge. If I could do it so can you. I just had my surgery yesterday at the OCC. Where are you having your surgery?

You will get through it, trust me. The first 3-4 days are hard but you can do it! I'm on day 9 of my 14 liquid diet (I have 3 Protein Shakes a day, broth, sugar free Jello or 2 sugar free popsicles, and lots of water). You feel like you are staving because you are hungry, but it's okay. I have a hard time when it's time to make my family dinner, I usually sip my broth during that time. Make sure you drink lots of liquids because that will help with your headaches. You can do this!

That is what my pre-op diet will consist of although luckily I only have to do a week. I am looking forward to it though, because that will mean the loser's bench will be so close.

My suggestion is to wean off of caffeine well before your pre-op period and to start easing into your pre-op diet. I started replacing a few meals a day with the Protein Shakes and eating a piece of small fruit or a small handful of nuts as a snack a few hours later if I got really hungry. My meals were really low carb- chicken and broccoli type stuff.

I found when I got to my 10 day pre-op diet with just Protein Shakes, broth, SF popcicles etc... it was no big deal. No headaches, not tired. I think because I did not go cold turkey it helped.

Drink lots of Water. I like mine flavored with MIO. Post-surgery it is the only way I get in my 64 oz a day. I actually drink closer to 90 oz.

Good luck to everyone. It does get better and it will be so worth it.

I was allowed food on pre-op diet, just couldn't go over 1,000 calories or 100 grams of carbs. I found that difficult enough.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
