5-Month Out Check in - Hope to Motivate

Recommended Posts

Hey! I had my sleeve on January 27th, 2015. I had my rough days, in the beginning there are some hard adjustments and things to learn. I had my periods of depression...I mean I had just re-defined that relationship with the love of my life (food) we are still friends, its just not the most important thing in life anymore. Don't get me wrong...I still LOVE to eat, but its different. Things I never thought I could give up (crème horns, cupcakes, ice cream...) just don't appeal to me that much anymore. I prefer food that makes me feel good. I eat generally a diet high in Protein, nuts, veggies and fruit. That's not to say I deny myself treats, I just don't eat much of them mostly because they have lost a great deal of their appeal. The first couple of months I still wanted bad food, but I noticed after I ate it I didn't feel great, I felt tired and just overall unwell. When I eat the kind of food my body needs I feel GREAT! I also started working out, and I don't mean so casual working out, I work out hard and heavy pretty much everyday. My body and do things I never thought I could do again, I am amazed at how much better I feel (not to mention how much better I look) I am happier with me than I think I have ever been in my life. Any of you reading this can feel this way too, and you will you just need to wrap you head around the change you've made. It's going to take you a couple of months to heal, but you will heal and you will feel better when you eat! Here is the advice I would give from 5-months out and at my half way goal:

1. Remember you will heal and feel better.

2. Weight loss surgery is a tool, and must be used with your other tools

3. You must work out, at about 3 months out try to hire a personal trainer to assist you

4. Eat small amounts of food's every couple of hours during the day.

5. Eat food that makes you feel good (high protein, veggies and fruit)

You can do this, you have come this far and the best is yet to come!!!

Andrea

I'm glad you've maintained a "friendship" with food. I'm realizing now how it is a tough relationship to redefine. Thanks for sharing!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
