Was anyone banded in December of '06?

Recommended Posts

I gained 5 lbs over the weekend because it was my birthday. I went out to dinner with my kids on thurs. Then fri and sat and sun different friends took me out to dinner. Now I am up 5 lbs. I am going to drink Protein Drinks only this week and try to get it off.

I seem to lose the best doing that. I don't want it to take a month to lose what I gained, like it usually does.

I have this huge jug of EAS chocolate whey that I got at Walmart a long time ago. I think that it's 120 calories if it's made with Water and not milk. I have done Slim fast low carb too but it's 190 calories. I have also used Atkins if I get sick of chocolate and get their strawberry The great thing about the band is that I really don't get hungry. I lose the best if I stick to 800 calories a day. I don't lose anything if I don't exercise too.

I find it easiest to count calories doing the Protein drinks. I hate looking up the calories on food and never know if I am figuring them out right, if it doesn't say right on the package.

Hi!

I was banded on December 19th. I typically "hang out" on the Steady Losers thread, too! I've almost lost 50 pounds according to my doctor's scale (or 54 pounds according to my home scale!). Obviously, I like my home scale better!

I just earned an Education Specialist degree in a one-year period (8/06-8/07), so my weight loss is a bit slower than some other folks. I had to spend way too much time sitting on my butt writing paper after paper and sitting some more in my classes.

I have a 10cc band and just got my latest fill last week. My band has 9cc of Fluid in it now. My restriction is very good now and I finally can't eat more than about a half cup of food at a time. My hunger seems to be well under control. I'm hoping this will help speed up my weight loss!

I really wanted to be under 200 pounds by my one-year bandiversary, but I'm at 225 currently, so I don't think I'll quite make it. My doctor would like for me to make it to at least 208.5. We'll see--the best I can do is get as close to that as I can!

By the way, I'm pretty sure that I am only considered to be "obese" now, not "morbidly obese!" It seems a bit silly to be excited about "just" being obese, but at least it's a step in the right direction!

Congratulations to all of you who have made it so close to your goal weight already! I am thrilled for you! Way to go!

For all of you who feel like you are struggling--hang in there and keep following your doctor's recommendations. The weight will start to come off if you persevere!

;):car:I WAS BANDED ON DECEMBER 28, 2006. TO DATE I HAVE LOST 120 POUNDS. I HAVE HAD A LOT OF UPS AND DOWNS, BUT I WOULD NOT TRADE THIS BAND FOR ANYTHING. I LIVE IN NORTH CAROLINA, BUT I WAS BANDED BY DR. GEORGE FIELDING IN NY. HE IS GREAT! ALL OF MY FILLS HAVE BEEN GREAT. SOMETIMES THEY HAVE BEEN TOO TIGHT, BUT IT USUALLY ADJUSTS WELL AFTER ABOUT A WEEK. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WRITING, BUT I HAVE BEEN SO ENCOURAGED BY READING EVERYONES POSTS. THIS SUPPORT IS SO GOOD FOR ME. EVEN IF SOMEONE IS NOT DOING SO WELL IT HELPS TO KNOW THAT THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT CAN RELATE AND UNDERSTANDS WHAT WE ARE GOING THROUGH.

THanks to you all

Barbara

Hi, Barbara! Can you remember waaayyyy back to this time last year......I am almost 2 weeks post-op and hungry. I lost 9 lbs the first week on liquids, and none since then. Maybe I am not getting enough exercise yet. I feel the restriction when I eat, and I guess I should just be glad I lost 9 lbs in 2 weeks, right???

I was banded on December 6th so its been a little over a year and I lost 70 pounds. I went from a size 18 to a size 6! I feel great as far as that but still dealing with the psychological baggage. Definitely still a work in progress

I have more to lose. I hope I am able to take some more off. I am a slow loser with a slow metabolism. I have high hopes that during this next year, I will continue to drop a little at a time.

Hi! I was also banded 12/06. I am down 87 pounds with about 23 to go. I also love my band & wouldn't trade it for anything. I have found that things have slowed up a lot now. Each pound is a hard won battle. But that's okay as long as they keep coming off. Stick with it!

Hello out there. Yes I was banded December 06. I have lost about 40 lbs so far. not what I would have wanted, thought by now more would have come off. I like so many cannot seem to leave the sweets and junk alone. But now that the holidays are over , I am really making an effort to do so.

I am in NH> I am going back to doctor on the 22nd, fear I have gained. but with about 19 days left hoping to drop some. I am pretty sure that I will be getting a fill I need one.

Please write I would love to hear from you that are in the same boat as me. Meals are not the problem , portions there are much much better than before the band. it is the snacking. My email is Mammysm@aol.com and usually check it every day. So please , please write.

Had my lapband done in Portsmouth NH Dr, Looser...write always Donna

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
