Was anyone banded in December of '06?

Recommended Posts

I don't think this is particularly funny but I have a recent experience.

It's been a long time since I got food stuck and I got careless. I didn't chew well enough and it was time to take my dad back to his assisted living place. I was sliming like crazy. Every couple of blocks I had to stop the car open the door and spit. My dad doesn't know I am banded. Luckily, my mom had this problem where she had to have her esophagus stretched. My dad told me to go and have that surgery that my mom had when she was throwing up all the time.

I got sleeved!

Denise knew I was going to be doing this and has been very supportive about my decision but I had my band removed a week ago and revised to a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. I now have a stomach the shape of a tube and the size of a man's middle finger.

I was having severe band problems the last three months and just couldn't do it anymore so I'm now without a band. But I think the sleeve is going to work for me and be a bit easier in my case.

So does that mean I am still a 12/06 bandster? ;o)

Good for you Bubble! I read your post some time ago regarding your problems with your band and your plans to convince your Dr. to remove it and replace it with the sleeve. I hope you will keep us posted on your progress with your fancy new tummy! You've proved to be a wealth of great information and I wish you the best of luck. Susan

Oh and we will miss you if you do not stay

That's for sure! Yes, you are still a banded 12-6 patient. That will never change, even if you do have your band in a plastic bag:biggrin:

I believe I discussed it here.

I don't like repeating it, it makes me sound anti-band. I'm not anti-band, I'm pro-WLS. ;o)

i WAS BANDED IN 12/11/06 I FEEL SO AWFUL BECAUSE THE ONLY THING I HAVE LOST WAS 42LBS., BUT I WILL NOT TRADE IT FOR THE WORLD, I LOOK SO MUCH BETTER EVEN IF I HAVE TO SAY SO MYSELF. I HAVE CHEATED SO MUCH BY EATING WHOLE BOXES OF ICE CREAM DAILY AT TIMES. I STARTED BACK WORKING OUT YESTERDAY AND TODAY. I WANT TO START DOING THE RIGHT THING. IT IS SO HARD FOR ME TO EAT meat, IT GETS STUCK AFTER 2 BITS, SO I TURN TO ICECREAM SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT GET STUCK. I DO NOT EAT Breakfast, I AM EXTREMELY TIGHT IN THE MORNINGS, SO I EAT AFTER 12:00.

IF ANYBODY HAS ANY ADVISE TO MOTIVATE ME PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND OF SOME MEALS THAT IS EASILY GOES THROUGH THE BAND:confused::laugh:

IS ANYONE IN THE SAME BOAT?

If you can eat bad food you can eat good food. Soft food syndrome does exist but it does not mean crap food that doesn't do anything for your body.

If you can eat ice cream you can drink a Protein shake. If you can eat dry crunchy things like Cookies and chips you can eat dried crunchy veggies. Whole boxes of ice cream daily has NOTHING to do with the band and everything to do with carb obsessions.

You have to get off ALL carbs for a week or so. It's horrible, the cravings suck. But you deal with it. Then you add in veggie carbs. NO bread or any other flour products, Pasta, rice, sugar, or starches such as peas, corn, or potatoes. None of those foods have enough nutritional value to be worth using up your calories per day.

You can have soft food syndrome without reaching for bad soft foods. There are plenty of good soft foods too until you either learn to work with the band, get the right restriction, or change procedure types if it is that bad.

Well Scorpio, First of all congrats on loosing 45lbs . That is good. We were banded on the same day. I am the same way I dont eat breakfast. Try a protien shake. I do find it hard to find meals that easily goes through the band. Try making things with eggs. The thing I love since I cannot have bread....you take any choice of lunch meat and wrap it with cheese. Those are awesome. ;). I know ice cream is hard to stay away from....I am guilty of having it too...try sherberts or low fat..... Watch your intake on food. Increase your protiens.

And maybe you should return to your surgeon. He/She might be able to help you loose more weight.

Keep in touch! Email if you want to kat1272@hotmail.com

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
