Counting down at T- 3 days and I'm stressed about things surrounding surgery, but ironically not the surgery itself, I want to make sure my FMLA pay is approved, I need the mechanic to work on my car, I need slippers, and I want my wife to stop stressing so much, I was even ok when I got a call on Thursday telling me that my surgeon had an emergency and would be out of the office 3 weeks, and asked if I wanted to keep my date and have his partner do it, of course I said yes, I've gotten to know the people and Dr.'s in the office, I guess I'm confident that my surgery will be ok, hut I want everything else to fall into place ! Lol

I am scheduled for June 23. I am scared. My intellect knows this is a good choice, but my emotions are not there. I can't wait to hear about your experience. You will do great!!

June 25th is my official date for now...if feels like I might have a few more hurdles due to needing a Upper GI and being self pay...everyone wants the money upfront before I even get an apt and extra fees that I hadn't planned for are appearing :( I'm hoping everything works out and I'll be sleeved on schedule!!!

Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are placed in patients who have a history of or are at risk of developing blood clots in the legs, including patients: diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT). with pulmonary embolus.

Interesting. I have a history of blood clots and was told I'd go on lovenox afterwards, but no IVC thingy. I might call the surgeon and ask...

I am now a Looser (in the most happy and positive ways)!

I am scheduled for June 20th in Mexico. I started my pre-op diet a few days ago and so far so good, but I'm dreading the clear liquid stage. I'm excited but also a little nervous. Glad to see so many others going through this process around the same time as I am.

I am on June 15, excited and I am on day 6 of my restricted diet. Now bad so far. Glad I can still eat raw carrots, gives me something to crunch! I go on liquids only the day before, but doesn't have to be clear. I have lost 23 lbs through my 3 month diet and up till now. I have told my parents who were not happy, I have posted it on my Facebook page and have told the four families that I watch their kiddos. I didn't tell my in-laws, but my hubby did. I DONT LIKE THEM AND THEY STRESS ME OUR. So I have not even been around them since starting my journey in January. I am trying to enjoy the transformation and not hear any negative comments from people who are suppose to be supporting me through this journey. I wish you good luck and see you on the losers bench!!!

My date is June 19th in TJ with Dr Garcia. Sooooo excited, but so nervous about flights, money and everything coming together. Started my pre-op diet of shakes with one meal per day a couple days ago. My insurance failed to approve me last week, but I haven't told any of my colleagues that. We are all nurses and surgical techs and surgeons and I don't want to hear their naysaying about going to Mexico.

Less than two days! I'm excited.... but a little bit of nerves are starting to kick in as well. I stood and looked in the mirror for a long time this morning... No fat covered body, I will not miss you because I can see the person who is just itching to get out.... Here I come!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
