How hard is it to get insurance to aprove the surgery

Recommended Posts

Ive tried time and time again to get the surgery done. Im now at the point where the drs office has submitted the paper work and I was wondering how long is this going to take and will the insurance give the ok or will it be a fight?

Depends on the insurance. I had 6 months of pre op requirements but once that was done insurance approved in less than a day.

Mine approved in four hours, but it was highly detailed. I got a personal letter from the physician, that helped.

I agree, I believe it is all in how thorough your office sends off your paperwork to the insurance company. I worked my program, completed it in 6 months, paperwork sent off as I left the consult with my surgeon and an hour and a half later I received a call that I was approved. A month later I had my surgery. I have GIC - Unicare of Massachusetts.

It really depends on ur insurance company and the detailed paperwork your team submits. I have Cigna. ..after the 3 month supervised diet everything was moving wayyyy faster than I was thinking it would take....approval within a day...and my surgery date is on 6/2!

It really depends on the insurance co. I got through everything in about 2.5 months. The final approval was the longest and that was 3 weeks. I knew it was what I wantef, but i would have loved abother visit with the nut.

@TXMissy You probably could have gotten another visit with NUT covered if you asked your doc. I went to doc for my first free consult April 17 and then did my psych eval, endoscopy, heart stress test, NUT apt, and pulmonary function test. Having Surgery June 1st. It all went much faster than I anticipated. I didn't have to do any supervised diet etc. I have BC/BS of Texas

I have medical blue cross lasalle .. I know I had to do the 6 month diet and that will be done around the 16th of this month. Im just ready to get it done and over.. the longer it takes the more time I have to think about the what ifs and all.

Depends on your insurance and how thorough and fast your surgeons office is, I asked my surgeon's office how long it normally takes it to hear back from my insurance and they said 5 to 10 business days. Mine was just approved yesterday (7/15) and got the call from the hospital to schedule my surgery yesterday as well, it took 10 business days.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
