Hello everyone! This is my very first post after tons of lurking lol!

I'm in the beginning stages of this journey, I started back in 2011-12 and decided not to go through. At that time I just wasn't ready and couldn't wrap my mind around the whole ordeal! HOWEVER I am ready more than EVER!!

Since I've already attended the orientation in 2011-12 I didn't need to take the "intro to WLS seminar". Instead I have my 1st telephone appointment with the RN on May 28th, the director said after that they will decide if I need any classes!!

My biggest fear is the Psych Eval... I have a history of Depression and ADD and am currently on Vyvanse. I'm scared that these mental health issues will lead them to deny me out of fears that surgery and the stress associated with mass weight loss would cause further issues.

Anyone else through KP Nor Cal with Depression/Bipolar/ADD

Hi! I'm new to this forum..and still in the "seriously considering" phase of WLS. I also take vyvanse for ADD and lexapro & Wellbutrin for anxiety/depression. If you can, please let me know if you learn more about whether or not these meds/conditions qualifiy. It's all so scary, but exciting at the same time! Thank you! Good luck!

Slynn90, I'm going through the program at Kaiser SSF. It's a really great program and they help you through a lot. The psych eval will be mostly focused on getting you through the emotional eating. Much of the time the psych appt is later in the process but if you're concerned, then ask the RN to schedule you with him/her ASAP so you can specifically ask the question about your stuff.

You'll need to follow the preop eating plan and go through a series of appts prior to surgery being set. In my program orientation we were told it takes about 2-4 months to reach surgery. Your duration will depend on your own needs.

I just started the process at Kaiser Richmond and I'm a therapist. It's my understanding that clinical diagnoses will not bar you from having the WLS. They do want to make sure that you are stable enough to handle the surgery, that emotional eating has been addressed and that you have a support system, however. Wondering if you went to the psych eval... I'm doing mine 9/8.

I am with kaiser but I am in SoCal. The more questions she started asking, the more I started to cry as I realized there were some issues that I had not dealt with. I have a history of PPD/PPA, and in my psych evaluation she stated that I might be suffering from depression and referred me to someone else. She was okay with me moving forward with surgery. I was sleeved on 7/6/15.

Good luck to you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
