I have been submitted to insurance for July 31st. Fingers crossed there are no problems. I too am getting used to the life time change as not using food to sooth or in stressful situations or especially in celebration situations. I have couple friends that aren't on board, ones that have strong opinions on everything. Have to let it go. They like to point out all the negative but I have been doing a good job of ignoring.

Focus really has to be on us going thru this and staying determined. I look forward to hearing on everyones experience in July since I am at the end.

Sue

Hi group. Just joined Bariatric Pal today. My surgery is scheduled for August 6th. Lots of doctors appointments and well-intentioned family & friends asking if I'm sure I really want to go through with this. Have you experiences this as well?

@ you as well! Looks like we'll be doing this together--glad to meet you. I'm really excited about it all, but I am already mourning the loss of beer. I really love beer. As the date and the pre-surgery diet gets closer, I try to take a few minutes everyday to think mindfully about all I will be gaining (by losing, ya know?). It's difficult to not worry in the planning/pre-weight loss stages, but I am trying to stay as positive and excited as possible instead of fixating on what I will be "deprived". I figure, I've consumed what I wanted for a long time, now my energies are being redirected toward consuming other things--instead of worrying about food, I will hike, bike, have more sex, not sleep all the time, etc. I will eat life! Haha.

How are you preparing for your surgery, mentally and physically? I'm calling these final weeks "the last days of disco" (because it was fun while it lasted, but disco is dead, man) and have certain meals/outings planned. What I have found interesting is that the meal is never as good as I remembered/want it to be--I am hoping it means that my subconscious is already prepared for the post-op future. So, now to the important questions, does the gastric sleeve have a super cute British nickname? Like, the 'sleevie', or the 'belly sleever', or something?

take care,

Sam

I love the 'last days of disco' - I remember it well lol !! Eating life sounds good too :D

I am a really positive upbeat person but having a crap day today. I have had to come off HRT (patches) before the op and I started a period today. First one in 3 years and I could scream. I feel bleh so will lurk here a bit, go to bed early, have a nice hot drink and tomorrow is another day and a fresh start. No cute name for the sleeve but I could share a choice names for my period right now

@@sarahleah Not one person I have told has questioned it as they have all seen my struggle with weight over the past 20 years. People can be concerned though and some just downright rude. Make the decision for you and only you. Good luck on your journey :D

Sarahleah,

Welcome, I'm pretty new here as well.

Yes I've ran across a few people asking me the same thing. Especially after you start losing weight with the dietician and pre-op visits. You'll get "why can't you just continue to do what you're doing", they don't understand that if it was that simple for us to achieve permanent weight loss WE WOULD. Stay positive and do what's best for you.

Good luck

I'm the day after you-July 17th. The first surgeon's appt was in late April, so like you I had 2 months where I felt like I was on a merry-go-round of doctors. My surgeon's group requires a lot of pre-op approvals. I had to see a pulmonologist who wanted me to have a pulmonary function test because I smoked 30 years ago. The cardiologist wanted me to have a stress test because I'm 65. I had an endoscopy with the GI doc. Then there was the psych evaluation and the appointments with the nutritionist. I figured since I was in the swing of things I might as well make my gyn appt and get my mammo and bone density done too- LOL At least I know everything has been checked out and I am in good health. The only thing I have left is the hospital pre-op testing which will be the week before. At first I was nervous and wondering if I was doing the right thing. Now I am so ready for this!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
