Restart/Pouch Test = works

Recommended Posts

Hi Sleevers,

It's been forever since I've posted. I have been at the same weight for a long time. I'm super close to my goal. I was sleeved 2/13/12. I'm very happy that I had it done. Wish I would have done it sooner.

I wanted to get back on track and start losing again. I did the 5 day pouch test. I wasn't sure if was going to work...but it did. I'm super happy with the results. Not only did I lose 6 pounds in 5 days I've gain the feeling of more restriction. I'm getting in 90 grams of Protein now, drinking 64 ounces of Water and really trying to focus on what works best for my sleeve.

I know I can maintain my weight. I've done that for months now. But now It finally feels like my goal will happen sooner than later.

It's so easy to fall into eating slider foods and taking little bites here and there. (And ice cream sure goes down well too)

I've read so many posts about getting on track. It's possible. I planned for about 2 weeks before doing the pouch test. I mentally prepared. If your struggling...pls know you can get back on track and reach your healthy BMI/goal. We all have come so far!!! Let's do this!! :)

I'm so excited to hear that the 5-Day Pouch Test works, that I'm tempted to go off my program just to give it a try...NOT! ;-) But I'm sure keeping it in my Bookmarks for the day when I need it! That, and the 5:2 diet which a lot of people swear by for maintenance.

I completed the 5 day pouch test last Friday and I am SOOOOOOO glad I did it. The weight loss was great,(6lb) but the most important thing was the restriction is back and I can't eat more than about 3/4 cup again. I figured I would be able to stop after about 1 cup after this was over but I am very happy that the restriction is now there again and I can't eat over 3/4 cup even if I want to. The biggest thing it reminded me to do was the drinking before and after meals. I thought I was following that rule but going through this test, I would eat then wait until I thought it was time to drink and look at the clock. Sometimes it would only be 10 to 15 minutes and before I would have gone ahead and drank. Thanks for putting this out there because it definately got me back to goal weight and I think it will be a great thing to keep me there.

Starting it today. Did any of you use the hearty Soups listed the first two days?

I did use the hearty Soups - I used the "Cheesy Ham" and the "pumpkin Sausage". (I think those are the correct names since I don't have the book in front of me) They are both delicious and very satisfying!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
