How to Choose Between Band and Sleeve

  • Popular Post

Hello...I am brand new here. I am 36 (will be 37 in less then a month). I am 5'7 and 245lb. I have PCOS, Diabetes, and high cholesterol. I just found out my insurance covers bariatric surgery and I am torn on what kind to get. I would like to loose around 70-80 pounds to get down to a healthy weight. How do people decide between the sleeve and LapBand? What are the benefits of one or the other?

THanks for your time!!!!

People have had success under both surgeries. My doctor no longer performs the band though because of the amount of people who have had failed bands.

I also have PCOS and was given the option of the sleeve or the bypass. I chose the sleeve. I probably would lose more weight with the bypass, but the sleeve is what I am comfortable with. I am 4 weeks out and have lost about 25 pounds.

Good luck

I wasn't comfortable with the idea of a foreign object in my body on a long term basis. The sleeve I wasn't sure about because of how new it is and I wasn't really comfortable with the removal of parts vs the "rerouting" of parts. I'm a recent bypass patient myself.

The band wasn't a choice for me. It wasn't offered at the hospital I was having surgery at. I picked the sleeve, because Ididn't want a piece of my stomach hanging around if it wasn't being used. I also didn't want to deal with dumping and with the chance of serious nutritional issues. The sleeve has worked very well for me I've lost ninety pounds in the last year, sixty since the surgery, while I'm still considered obese, I went from a BMI of 50 to a BM I of 33. I still have ten pounds to go before I hit my surgeons goal.
