Its really interesting to me that Kaiser has such different requirements within and without the same states. I'm with Kaiser in Northern CA and I had my Orientation/Nutrition Class on 03/26/15, my consult with the Surgeon on 04/02/15 and my Psych Assessment today (04/21/15).

My surgeon gave me a goal of only 9.5 pounds from the day we met and the psychologist is having me attend 3 classes and support group at least once before I can meet with the Case Manager to schedule (also have to reach the Weight Goal set by my surgeon but I'm only 1.5 lbs away! :D ). He told me today that I'm looking at about 6 weeks before my surgery date. Yikes!

In the orientation class they said that if you follow the program (meal plan and exercise and all that jazz) that usually it's about 2 to 4 months from that day. I'd estimated that I'd be having my surgery in July but now it looks like it could be as soon as the first week of June. Very nervous and excited!

Hi I have Kiaser in California and just began the program. I haven't had to a 6 month wait, I'm not sure what that's about perhaps did you read in the literature about a 6 month supervised diet like I did. Well today I went to the information session and they didn't mention it being a requirement. I have my body analysis tomorrow then begin the 12 week options program that's weekly. Afterwards I'm told then we are scheduled for an appointment with the surgeon where they will determine if your ready for surgery. Not to mention we have to loose 10% of your weight. Keep me posted love to keep in touch with someone who is around the same stage as I

that's very interesting Kiaser is so different within California in in southern California and have to take a 12 week options program before even getting an appointment with the surgeon. I just went to my informational meeting today and go for the body analysis tomorrow. I'm counting down the days

Nice to have someone in the same area. The 12 weeks goes by really fast and you can usually get scheduled soon after.I was scheduled last year and chickened out and cancelled now I am scheduled again for may 6 It's so close. I had my preop yesterday so everything is good to go. Good luck with your classes

May 6th is right around the corner, are you prepared? How much weight did you lose pre op? I know my time will fly by because of weekly classes and preparing for this life changing experience. Good luck

It is very interesting, the different requirements within the same company. FTR, I actually asked my class leader about other Kaiser regions having 6 months classes and she said that "they should all be on the same plan" meaning that they were all 12 weeks but reading here I knew that wasn't right.

I told my doctor I wanted to be considered for bariatric surgery, two weeks later the information packet came in the mail, I called the number, attended the orientation and picked my track. I am in Kaiser SoCal, the classes are 12 weeks; my track began in the middle of March and ends at the end of May. I needed to have blood/stool work completed before week 6, meeting with the lead doctor, psych evaluation, and a body analysis. I also needed to lose 10% of my current body weight (so far 18 of 25lbs lost).

Yes like I said 6 weeks class we had to weigh in every class but nobody recoded or looked we weigh our selfs then recorded it, I had two psych evaluation But I think it was a 10 20 mins conversation on both visits saw nutritionist 1 visit ..started classes April 2014 had surgery July 2014 very easey ..oh had blood work but no stool samples and what is a body analysts? So no all Kaiser is the same . I met with the surgeon only to make final decision on what surgery I decided on ..bypass or sleeve

Hi, I'm new to this site. I am a Kaiser member I will have my sleeve done on May 5, 2015.

I finished my classes in December but because of work had to wait for surgery.

I went to my orientation in January 2014 and could have had surgery in March less than two months later. I waited until April to schedule it during a time I could easily take time off of work. I wasn't required to lose weight prior to surgery as my BMi was "only" 38. Others in the program seem to have had a 10-20 pound pre-surgery weight loss required. Only a few classes were required and a psyc. eval. It's been a little over a year now and I'm below goal weight. Easiest weight I've ever lost!

body analysis was just where they take a picture of you and officially weigh you in for the first time and then tell you how much weight you have to loose before surgery

Congrats Kat! Which Kaiser are you at in Northern Cali? I'm at the Richmond Kaiser and would love to find friends locally. I am scheduled for surgery June 10th! Nervous and excited of course!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
